Default speedo cable removal and replacement help on 97 L

ok i have come to the conclution that i need a new speedo cable. however before i break it how does the lower section come out of the tranny case. is it threaded or does it have some sort of snap ring mechanism. i may be over thinking it but i just want to know before i break anything. i have already established the workings of the upper. thanks to everyone in advance

Typically, they get ruined trying to remove them. Those stupid plastic threaded collars are notorious for becoming one with the case and deforming when you try to remove them.

I dunno if CLR would help any.....but I've ended up using a torch on the case to soften the plastic and just tearing it out.

I managed to remove the electronic one from my donor car, and then I managed to get the slightly different mechanical one to fit in. Having said that, I hope to never touch it again
