2002 Legacy GT dash question

ok so I ordered a new part (the one in the picture that's right above the glovebox) and figured I'd give it a go today. Come to find out after I removed the glovebox and cabin air filter, man was that dirty, that this piece and all other dash pieces look like they are bolted to a panel! Meaning, it looks like I'd have to remove the whole dashboard and unscrew the separate piece from the dash skin! Please someone tell me I'm wrong and that there is an easier way but I can't seem to see any other option, besides a vinyl repair kit.

edit:I see the picture in my post, you can't? weird. It's below the airbag cover, here is another picture of it:

yep, it shows now.

hrm, i never had to remove that. gonna have to defer to someone else. my guess is that it's clipped into the dash somehow, but probably easiest to remove the entire dash.

that is an oxymoron!

I'm gonna fix it with viynl repair before I remove the whole dash cause that would suck!
