Yes but only for the early years the LGT got a EJ25 and the L's got a EJ22 then they all got EJ25's from 99+. Then in 2005 the LGT got the EJ255 and the 2.5is got the EJ253.

For the earlier years the LGT got the snowflake wheels and waaay better styling

Yeah the only common years were 99.5-2004 (engine) then the LGT got the lovely EJ255 and better interior (subjective ) In 05 however the LGT could be had as basic as a 2.5i.

The LGT got the EJ255 with a VF40 then 06-07 that got revised to a VF46 then on 08-09 that got improved to a VF48 now the BM legacies have a twinscroll revised EJ255 the only MT is the LGT (6MT)

The 2.5i got the first version of the EJ253 in 05 then on 06+ they added AVLS and changed internal components (moved the water pump) and added a better factory manifold+catalytic converter. In 2008.5 they gave the 2.5i SI drive and the Uber cool package. The BM 2.5i (5th Gen) Now gets a CVT or a 6MT gearbox

ALL BM legacies are larger and roomier but at least at the 2.5i level you get a 6MT

basically what he's saying is that the 96-99 LGT was a step up from the L in terms of power, the 00-04 all had the same motor (but different wheels, options, suspension parts), and then after 05 the LGT had a turbo motor. The spec B also has a very nice 6-speed and probably the nicest subaru interior ever.

Also the 08-09 does not have a vf48- that's the sti turbo that wouldn't work on a legacy.

http://cars101.com/ will answer all your questions

Hah you make me sound like a retard . Im an uninitiated subaru owner. With upgraded internals and lower compression pistons it is possible to do it reliably though right? Oh, so the newer 2.5 isn't as easy? Mind educating me as to what the difference is?
