Default EGT question, my EGTs are LOW

And I mean WAY low. At cruise doing 45-50MPH I'm reading 800F, WOT doesn't get over 1000.

This has got me a bit freaked out. I checked the thermocoupler, and it looks ok, the car doesn't idle oddly, no smoke from the tail pipe, nothing. The only thing is it doesn't feel as strong, but I can probably chalk that up to the 90+ degree temps, and high humidity we've had here lately.

I'm wondering if a weak power supply could cause the problem. Any ideas?

Y'know I usually run at about 1350F at around 3000rpm cruise but ever since this hot and humid weather we've been getting it rarely gets up over 1200F with the same conditions. I wonder if it has something to do with atmospheric density on the exhaust? Monitored the engine data with the laptop and didn't notice anything else out of the ordinary so I wonder if it really isn't a problem.

With those kinds of EGT's and not as much power there are many possibilities. We don't have enough info yet to diagnose. It seems that the problem is there in closed loop and open loop.

For instance, you could have a blockage or problem in your RRFPR (if you have one) that is raising fuel pressure too high. or, for example, I once had a bad #3 plug wire and was running rich due to a weak spark but only in #3 cylinder where the EGT probe was placed (but I was rich only under boost in open loop with misfires noted).

Where is the EGT probe mounted?

Did you just install the EGT and triple check the connections?

What did the EGT's run prior to this, any prior history?

Did you ever cut the wires to the probe shorter and change the connections from the way the probe was originally supplied?

Do you have a CEL for catalyst efficiency (might indicate too rich closed loop) or misfires?

Etc... Need more info.

Joel - Is it an Autometer gauge? And did it happen overnight? It may be a bad unit, thermocouple or gauge. Give them a ring and ask if something like that is a common-type failure.

The weather has been hot and sticky, so the car hasn't felt as strong. At night it feels stronger when the air is cooler.

Larry:
This just happened maybe a week or so ago, before the EGTs were pretty much normal. BUT, the guage needle did have a habit of "jumping". It'd be at 1400, then jump down to 12, not a smooth movement, but rather an instant jump, and only at WOT.

The EGT probe looks fine, I didn't cut any of the wires, and it's located in the passenger side collector. The Fuel Pressure seems fine, and the car isn't running overly rich. It IS possible I have a fouled spark plug over there. I need to check them.

I have had a CEL since the turbokit went in. Catylist efficiency, and now my front A/F sensor is dying.

Nick:
Yes, it's an Autometer, so is the sender. I'll give them a ring and see what they say.

weird i heard probes are first things to go... but i'd test it first... with a good probe you'll know immediately if its guage, CM or probe... you don't want to be sending stuff back and forth... you got subie buddies around?
