New to Turbos and I just put in a boost gauge, now I have a question

This may be a newbie type question, but this is my first turbo car and I just put in an Autometer boost gauge.

I noticed that in first gear, the gauge will very rarely get more than 6psi from a semi aggressive launch, 10-12 on a more aggressive launch, and I hit 14 the other day from a hard launch. Sometimes with a part throtle, normal launch I barley get any boost.

I have the 3/16th connector mod.

Could someone help me understand this behaior? Is it a fiirst gear saving thing?

it is just the factory boost controller. you shouldn't see full boost in 1st or 2nd. add a manual boost controller to see full boost in all gears. do a search to find the pros and cons.

amount of boost also depends on the load you put on the motor. you wont get peak boost in 1st even with a manual boost controller simply because there is not enough load on the motor to produce sufficient exhaust gasses to spool the turbo fully before redline is reached. this is only my experience with my car.

I should clarify that I have a Stage 0 installed with the MBC, and I definitely am getting close to full boost in 1st.

the addition of your vishnu up pipe probably aided in getting close to full boost in first gear. i have the vishnu up pipe, turbo xs turbo back with race pipe, turbo xs dual stage boost controller, aem cold air intake, 50hp nos wet kit. thats nos brand. and turbo xs stage 2 unichip. i acheive close to full boost in first gear also but i attribute this to the fact that i have no catalytic converters in the exhaust stream.

I get full boost in first gear. I started getting full boost in first gear when I installed my APEXi AVC-R boost controller. I love that thing, I almost always hit my maximum boost pressure right on the nose. This month's sport compact car did a review of electronic boost controllers if you're interested. (it's the issue with the WRX STi on the cover)

I think it's BS that they raced an EVO versus the wimpy sport compact wrx project car. That project wrx sucks balls. My wrx could kick its ass and mine is hardly modded at all.

i thought the same thing about their "project wrx" in scc. the only thing i want from that car is the fmic

i had an apexi avc-r at one time and it was to finicky from day to day for me. i dont know if it was the weather here or what but it seemed like i was always messing with it. right now it is laying in my wifes closet awaiting a new project.
