Default Subaru Confirms Rear -drive Coupe

Quote:
Subaruís new Coupe is go! The Japanese firm has confirmed that a concept version of its long-awaited Coupe, jointly developed with Toyota, will make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. No pictures have yet been released, but our exclusive renderings give you an idea of how the newcomer will look.

Whatís more, the firm has confirmed that the car will be built on an all-new platform, and while the Coupe will feature Subaruís trademark horizontally-opposed boxer engine, it wonít get the firmís symmetrical all-wheel drive. Instead, like to Toyota model, it will be rear-drive, giving the firm a rival to Hyundaiís Genesis Coupe in the US market.

Subaru has also confirmed that it will show its new Impreza Concept, which was first seen at the LA Show last year, and the firmís new Trezia model which is a B-segment MPV thatís essentially a rebadged version of Toyotaís forthcoming Verso-S.

Shame the photo is just an AutoExpress rendering and not the actual car. They did a decent job of integrating elements from the Impreza concept, though, like the wheels and lower grille area.

The tiny rear view looks nice, a little bit of GT-R in the diffuser and bumper.

This won't bode well for the purists (Hi HB_Dad!). To which I say: get over it/yourselves.

I am with you, Coupe for summer and a forester or outback for winter. Would like it even more if they put the flat six in it. I like the turbo four, but I think the smoother six would work better in this kind of car. Also since its going to be rwd, Subaru can move the engine back and make the weight balance spot on.

It's a toss up to me right now. Comes down to the specs in March (power/amenities/price/etc...). It's this or the new Hyundai Veloster. I know it's 2 different categories, but I could go either way. I like the "standard" features in the Veloster.

What's funny is the blue pic above has much of the styling cues from the B11S... and THAT'S a car I wish Subaru would make.

Looks really similar.

The fact that it is not being unveiled in NY probably means it won't be sold here. They have nothing now to unveil at the NYIAS, well, maybe the production 2012 Impreza.

The 2012 WRX/STI will be identical to the 2011. The new WRX isn't until 2013.

Rear-wheel-drive Subaru sports car headed to Geneva motor show

Quote:
Rear-wheel-drive power is on the way for Subaru, and a sports car being jointly developed with Toyota will be shown in March at the Geneva motor show.

Each of the Japanese companies will get a version of the car, which Toyota calls the FT-86. Subaru will supply the engine, a horizontally opposed boxer powerplant. It's based on a new platform.

The car will be assembled in a Subaru factory.

Toyota has been more forthcoming with plans for the car and showed a concept at the 2009 Tokyo motor show. That car follows in the footsteps of the AE86 sports car from the 1980s, which was Corolla-based.

Also in Geneva, Subaru also will show the Trezia small wagon for European sale.

Obviously the Toyota version but Subaru is making both.

I like the way Auto Express always refers to their renderings as 'exclusive', as if that means anything more than it's just their exclusive guess. Let's look at this again after it's been released.

Anyway, does anyone know if this design is by the new Subaru designer?

on top of the fact that i feel that making it rwd would make it too similar to the FT86
