Default NWIC Photographers Photo Assignment #75 - "Macros"

The Rules are as follows:

1) Assignments will run bi-monthly with an assignment from the 1st through the 15th of the month and the 16th through the end of the month.
READ ME FIRST

2) The host supplies a topic and the entrants post 1-3 of their best images.

3) The host judges the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd). He/she is not eligible to enter.

-The 1st place winner then chooses the next topic, judges the winner and passes on the baton to the new champion.

-For simplicity a new thread should be started by the winner with the new topic.
4) The host should post a sample photo of the assignment topic to "get the ball rolling."

5) To keep a level playing field,
*** the photos for the assignment MUST BE TAKEN WITHIN THE ASSIGNMENT PERIOD ***
(however, the host may be able to post a photo from outside of this period to give the entrants a sample photo).

6) Each photo should be no larger than 1024 pixels at its largest side

7) Borders or Watermarks are not permitted

8) Post the camera type, lens, and if possible the EXIF data, (shutter speed, aperture, ISO, etc) with the photo.

9) Photographers should also be from the NWIC.
This isn't because we are a bunch of elitist jerks,
it's a way to keep the number of photo submissions down to a manageable level for the judging
and because it is an NWIC photographer assignment after all

10) Violations of the rules listed herein may lead to the deletion of your submission.

Hopefully this topic will drum up a little more participation... I want to see actually macros NOT just closeups here folks...

some of my examples (sorry I do mostly flower macros so this is what I have in my stash)

eta: here's a non flower non DSLR example. taken with my point and shoot in macro mode just to show you that you don't have to have a fancy camera to do this.

I am new to photography.

So could you explain what the differance between a macro and a close up is?

Do you have to have a macro lends? or is it a setting?

It can be a macro setting in your point and shoot or use your macro lens.

The actual definition is a close up photograph of a small object to show more detail.

I like to use a quarter as an example. Just taking a picture of the quarter is not macro. But if you get close enough to show the detail in the ridges on the sides or the bumps on either side of the coin. That is macro.

NOT A SUBMISSION. Taken before contest was posted, more of a bump/subscribe/example (that I am proud of)

Manual exposure, 1/197 sec, f/11, ISO 100

ok, i really struggled with this one. I took all of these photo`s with my cell phone. (Droid X) the problem i kept having is that i couldnt stay on track with the marco theme, and kept doing a depth of feild kind of shot due to the limitations of my phone.

the first one is a water pocket in a tree at Multnomah falls

this is borderline i guess...

cant wait till i get a real camera again. all unedited, straight out of my cell.

ooooh let us know how you like the D90. we are thinking of getting one. my Minolta 5D is slooooowly dying... and i want to switch over to Nikon. we have a D50... but we need two cameras... we figure sharing lenses would be a good bet. so me going the Sony route would be a no go.

i had the D80, and i have about 250 shots on the D90 and i LOVE it. the fit and feel is nicer. as well as having a really nice live view feature.

i was torn between the D7000 and D90. I really dont care about the video fetures, but the D90 can be had for around 720ish body only right now. i only have one lens but it is a great all around lens. 18-200.
