Default BC/BF grilles?

Does anyone know where I could get another grille for my 94 wagon?

I like this one:

I hope the owner doesn't mind me linking it. The RS bumper conversion looks nice too.

That grill was custom done.

You most likely will not find any aftermarket grills for the 1st gen legacies.

I just had mine painted the same color as the car, looks pretty good. I'm doin some retrofitting and painting to get the bunny on it

If I had more time, more tools, and know how I think it would have been cool to snip the center section from the grill that has the emblem on it, and take some pieces from another grill and insert it in the middle so it is one continuous piece rather then the big oval thing. Oh well.....that's for a later project.

Found these on Yahoo Japan. I can get either of them for you.

Monovich, do you know which one fits mine? What would be the cost? I understand it can get pretty harsh getting parts from Japan. My grill has four attachment points across the top, but they are below and at the back of the top surface. It looks like the bottom grille could be feasible.

Legacy777, thats what I was going to try as well, Some mod of the existing grill. But if I could get one already made, it would be all the better. If thats all custom made it looks good.

well, they both say BF5 in the description... but a BC / BF guy would be able to answer wether or not there were revisions to that body style, I don't know. I think they'd both fit.

They'd be somewhere between $100 and $200 (shipped). It depends on how high the auctions go.

here's a front view of the top one so you can compare it better:

Cool. I thought the grill normally has 5 mounting spots. Does that last picture showing that one of the mounting spots is broken off?

It doesn't say anything about it being broken in the description, but I couldn't gurantee anything because I've only got the pictures you see.

It could be that it is an aftermarket grille, so they left one out?

Default hmmmm

On the mounting points, mine has four across the top- I didnt check for the total mounting points.

Monovich these are being auctioned off? Would you mind telling me the webpage address?

Im not certain but I think 92-94s have narrower grilles than 90-91 models. Anyone know for certain?

Tanx

edit: mine has seven mounting points- four across the top, three across the bottom. I agree I could make the correct grill work.

The width versus height ratio for my grill is 6.79:1 (measured at the top of the grill) which is very close to the ratio seen in the grille pictured on the carpet in the above pics. How is the auction going on that grille?

I believe the other grille is for a 90-91 model (it measured ~ 8.8:1.) This is assuming the pics are not significantly distorted.

Most likely the switch over in the US market happened at a different time in japan so It might be hard to know if this works. Does the auction say what year its from?

well that link didnt work for me Steve but it put me close enough to find it, thanks.

I am immediately interested in how you get the items. Is it a connection you can share? It would seem complicated to handle money exchange, shipping, etc. Do you regularly buy parts from Japan?

Thanks, subysouth

Here's another grille being auctioned and I'm still looking:

ciper it is so true, its not fair

I have a friend in Japan. He adds a percentage to the purchase price to cover his time. Depending on the item or how I feel, I also may take a percentage to cover my time.

Everything I've bought from him has been done through paypal and shipped through USPS. It's quite easy. He's very nice, but very busy and wants to limit the ammount of time he spends doing this so it's not a free-for-all.

So far I've imported headlights, taillights, and a few other misc. items. The Real Oaf bought a set of taillights from me and seems happy.

Well......looking a little closer at my grill and those grills......it looks like the 90-91 grill has a little bit curve goin on.....on the edges where it mates up with the headlights.

Here's some pics of my grill

Just looked at the parts lists I have for the first gen legacies.......the 90-91 and 92-94 legacies have different type grills.

The one in those pics from japan look like they will work on the 92-94 legacies.

monovich: Would you have an idea of how much it would cost total for the following auction?

well, it's hard to say because the auction doesn't end for six days. But if it were only 2000 yen then it'd be about $20 for the lights and another $20-$40 for shipping and "handling" (depends on weight)

But these are for LHD and they aren't projectors, so you *might* have a tough time aiming them. Also, they seem to be blotched a bit in the picture with the red circle in it.

you can read a rough translation here

I must really be a dumb a$$. Scratch that, I swore those were turn signals for the lower portion on the front, the images distorted how large I thought they were.

The turn signals on the early legacy are so freaking ugly you wouldnt beleive it. When they age they become even more orange!

Yeah I know ciper....they are pretty putrid. That's why those corner lenses would be good. They have the turn signals in them. I'm still lookin if I can stick the light bulb socket for the 92-94 legacy in the 90-91 legacy corner lense for the turn signals and corner lenses.

Hopefully I'll know if it'll work this weekend.

My '93 has OEM clear corners. They look great, though I hate orange plastic. I don't know if they'd fit your car or not since I think there are small differences in the headlights of the 90-91s and 92-94s. I'm sure someone here would be able to verify this.

whiteRex: Im not referring to the upper running lights next to the headlights. Im referring to the lower turn signals. Those headlights are the same shape as those (if I remember right).
Look at legacy777's first picture, right below the bumper next to the tow hook. Mine are REALLY REALLY orange, way more than that.

My current plan (similar to legacy777) is to modify the side markers you were speaking of to be the turn signals and replace the orange lower turn signals to be fog lights. I would probably leave the orange covers but if those japanese ones I wanted to buy were the same part that would have looked great.
