Recently I purchased the Yokohama AVS Intermediates....
There is only word to describe this transformation: INCREDIBLE The 225/50/16 Yokohama AVS Intermediates fit GREAT on the stock 6.5 inch wide WRX rims. There is at least an inch of strut clearance. I went to my house after work.. picked them up and took them to a shop to get them installed. Leaving the parking lot I majorly jump on it... car pulls out of the lot like it was being towed by a Mac Truck. I mean the thing just yanks me out of the lot! Then I fill up the tank (very low-almost on empty) and go for a 30 min/15-20 mile spirited run. I know this road very well - never any traffic and I know the turns very well. With the crap re-92's I was squirming around every turn. The tires would scream mercy and beg me to stop abusing them. The intermediates hang on like a mountain goat on a steep Himalayan trail. I mean I was taking turns 10-20 mph faster and the things weren't even squealing... Unbelievable! The tire is awesome -great sidewall (barely sticks out over the rim) -tread looks and most importanly handles great -noise is more than stock but not intrusive -haven't taken them to their limit (sorta scared) so I can't comment on the breakaway characteristics -can't comment on wet weather/hydroplaning -Braking is noticably different (in a GREAT way) than stock -Looks hella burly when viewing the car from behind ![]() -Can't comment on tread wear... -And best of all...IN THIS SIZE $60 A TIRE FROM TIRERACK!!!!!!!! ( I could buy 2 sets of these for 1 set of S0-3 or BFG KDW's.) I can say this is the best modification I have done to my car after: uppipe, muffler hack with a straight pipe, MBC, and some other stuff. My only regret is that I wish I had more $ because I would have ordered these a hell of a lot sooner...oh well!!!!!!!!!!! ~Evan (ready for some more driving)! ![]()

Get yourself a set of F/R sway bars and a custom alignment and they will perform even better....
Great price on the tires by the way, when I got mine they were around $85 each. I've had them for about 4K miles (don't drive the WRX much during the week) with about 7 autocrosses on them and they are wearing pretty well. I'm not expecting much more then 15K out of them though before they will need replacing. Shawn |

subarud - can you post a pic of what these tires look like on your rim? 225's sound really wide for a 6.5" rim.
i love these tires by the way! |

Arnie~
Sorry, I don't have a camera that I could post pics with. If you do a search you might be able to find some posts where guys have pictures of 225/50's on stock rims. All I can say is that they fit well on the rim. There is no sidewall flex and the grip is amazing. I think how wide a tire is (tread) depends on the brand and model, too. They are wider than the rim, however not much. ~Evan |
