Responses will definitely vary. I'm planning on going with Boost, EGT and Oil Pressure myself...

EGT - exhaust gas temp, pretty important to know, also one of the more expensive gauges

id say boost, air fuel, and egt...but if you get the blitz dtt, you can get an extra guage since it comes with a digital boost guage.

Hrm is oil temp just not a popular choice or what? I alerady have the factory boost gauge so Im thinking of going A/F, oil temp, and either oil pressure or EGT.

I think oil temps are important, especially if you go on the track.

Default I would rather have an oil pressure

gauge than oil temperature. If the oil temp is getting out of line, the water temp should follow. But if the oil pressure drops drastically, I may be able to stop in time to prevent engine damage. I agree with the majority above, boost, EGT, and oil pressure. I have an electronic boost controller, so I'm going 2 gauge pillar mount as well (don't like the center gauge pod look).

Ahh ok, makes sense. Is there a range that the WRX should be in terms of oil pressure? Im new to this kind of stuff. Or do we just kinda see what range normal driving brings it to and go from there? Thanks

I would not use the stock boost gauge.
Personally, I would go with Greddy 60mm peak hold warning
EGT
Boost
A/F Ratio

Oh nothing really. Something like more boost, higher EGT's, meltdown of the precat, cat debri hitting the turbine, no more turbo, shell out more money

A/F is useless if you don't go with something like the Greddy A/F unit.

Why is this? Does the Greddy unit use a wideband sensor or something?

boost
egt
oil temp*

*after a long q&a time i finally decided on oil temp 'cause the car has a oil pressure light. true if oil pressure drops quickly you could seize, but the light will come on, smoke will billow, and you'll know quickly enough. but high oil temp is a slow death you might not recognize while waiting for the stock water temp guage to rise. high oil temp is a killer over time, especially for the turbo. if your not comfortable with the stock oil pressure light, you could always put in a no-pressure light of your own, and really, that's all the information you need from the pressure side of the argument. (true higher pressure might tell you it's time to change your oil, but if you aren't doing that simply based on the odometer guage, why would you pay attention to a oil pressure guage) ANYWAY...i tend to ramble.

Supposedly the stock oil pressure idiot light will only come on around 2 psi of pressure. This means that when your engine is ruined because of low oil pressure, the light will come on and inform you of the reason a short time later...

I am in the boost, egt, oil pressure camp, BTW.

yes, but what would cause a oil pressure catastrophy that would drop oil pressure from 80psi (wild ass guess at oil pressure) to 2 psi?
1) blown gasket=lots of smoke.
2) hole in oil pan=spots/puddle in your driveway and/or idiocy if you didn't check for a hole after you hit the rock.
3) break in any other line, which would most likely cause 1 and/or be caused by 2... anyway....

now, what happens when your oil temp is 100 degs hotter than spec, but you don't notice the water temp needle up more than a few fractions of an inch (an you dismiss that because it's a hot day)?...what happens is, you fry your turbo.
i may be exagerating, but that's more my concern than not noticing if i blew a gasket or drove over a rock the size of a soccer ball.
but that's just MHO.

there's a lot of debate over oil pressure vs oil temp, but what about a/f? no one's really mentioned the pros and cons of having an a/f gauge.

i was personally thinking about getting boost, egt, and a/f. but now i'm thinking about ordering the column oem boost and getting egt, a/f, and oil pressure
