Default Abnormal Idle

I have a 96 Legacy AWD 2.2 and I am having an odd idle problem... after the car has been driven for a little while and gets to full temp when I come to a stop my idle likes to sit high.. at about 1300rpms... then I can kick the throttle down really quick and it will idle where it is supposed to.

The linkage looks clean and not gummed up... I read it might be an Idle valve or something like that?

Any help or similar experiences?

Thanks!!!!

Yeah try the idle air control valve on the throttle body. They can get dirty and throw off your idle. The same can also be said for the maf sensor. I would try cleaning both of those and see how it goes.

Look at your intake piping and follow the biggest hose coming off of it. it'll lead you next to the upper left of your coil pack. It will have the main vacuum hose connected to it that I mentioned to follow and two smaller hoses on the left and rite towards the bottom of it. and will also have a three pin plug going to it. and if that isnt enough, Look for three small letters A,B,C behind the plug. The top will either be gray or brown plastic and the base will be metal. There is four 8MM bolts holding it on. It will take you aprox one minute to remove.

There you go.

Should be the same for your 96 if it's an EJ22E. It's the same on my dad's 95 EJ22E.

They're 10mm, no biggy, I'm sure the OP would find out when he couldn't get the socket to fit.

Update: I didn't get around to cleaning the IACV when my "Check Engine" light finally went off, which I'm glad it did. It ended up being the TPS. So now it idles fine and has no issues
