Default Exhaust tone diff, with equal legnth header?

I have heard that adding an equal legnth header will make the distictive flat 4 burbble sound more like your run of the mill straight 4.

Who out there has, say a Cusco or similar header and how would you compare your exhaust note to when you had only a cat or turbo back?

Even better, who has the headers and a scoobysport muffler?

Thanks,

Carlos

Yep! Some cars here run equal length manifolds by Syms and JUN .. completely lost the signature boxer noises! At the same time, they also report remarkable "power" gains and quieter exhaust at low revs.

Yes, there is a definite change. I received the comment that it sounded "weak" from another wrx owner. Then I pulled the BPM's baffle out and people laughed at the comparison. It's downright fierce. You have never heard a race car if you think otherwise.

Yup, the off beat sound will diminish somewhat. You can barely hear the pap pap of the boxer with a 4-1.

Is that the twister or GT? Cat or no? I have the twister, and I love the off beat sound it makes. I don't know if I would sacrafice it for 15hp!!!

There was an actual sound clip floating around here somewhere a couple weeks back. I thought it sounded bad myself, like a regular 4-banger with a big fart-cannon, but I assumed it was just the quality of the recording. You might want to try searching for it - I don't recall anything about the thread, sorry.

I have a set of HKS headers with a full 3" custom turbo back which includes a HKS Carbon/Ti catback and a single 3" Random Technology hi-flow cat. I get a bunch of nice comments from everybody about the sound of this exhaust package. A ton of people asked me why it sounds like a V8, and that it doesn't sound like a 4 cylinder to them at all. From idle to about 3000rpm it sounds like a low grumble of a v8 or a Supra TT with a 3.5" or greater exhaust on it (awesome sounding machines!), but after that the boxer definitely sets in as the exhaust gets a littler more twangy in nature (rattling sounding). I don't know if I'm wording this correctly, so I'll get my buddy with a DAT to tape the exhaust and upload it to my website so you can judge for yourselves.
