Default Just got a Blackstone Lab oil analysis

The results speak for themselves. The car is a 2011 Sti Sedan Limited with 10k miles. I run Amsoil 10w40 full synthetic. This oil had 5k miles on it with a Wix oil filter. Hopefully my screenshot is clear enough. I found the Zinc content lower than expected because Amsoil advertises the oil as having a high zinc content for cleaning purposes. This is my 3rd oil change since I got the car. Looks like the Amsoil oil holds up pretty well.

BTW, I highly recommend Blackstone Labs. I shipped out the oil day before yesterday and they got the report to me today. The report was $25.00. Not a bad deal at all.

manufacturers base their recommended oil change interval on several factors, none of which have anything to do with how YOU drive your car.

you may find that you can go 8k miles on an oil change, you may find you should only go 2k miles.

or you can just keep changing your oil at the recommended interval (or if you never change your oil, you can do that too).

that's why he did it, he wants to see if he can save money by increasing his oil change interval over what's recommended by the factory, or if he needs to change it more often to keep the engine safe.

Thank you. The master tech at the dealership I work at told me" Even though I use mobil 1 religiously, I should not go more than 3200. " That some of the small things the filter wouldn't catch could hurt the turbo.

I wouldnt expect the dealer to say anything else than that^^ Its bs, most cars on the road with average maintainers get their oil changed to often.

The only reason I don't think it's crap is because I work there.

I did it because Subaru's new oil change interval for the sti is 7500 miles. That seemed a little extreme to me. I wanted to make sure that I was not damaging my motor by running the oil that long. Judging by what Blackstone said, apparently running 7000 miles on Amsoil 10w40 synthetic is perfectly fine.

I've yet to hit my first 1k. Can someone tell me how much Amsoil runs and how much the "recommended" Subaru synthetic runs?

I'm at 625 miles in my '11 WRX, about to do an oil change before the autocross this weekend down in League City.

Pennzoil Ultra Euro Synthetic 5w-40 and an OEM filter going in, #2 choice is Shell Rotella T6 synthetic 5w-40. I am sticking to 3750 OCI's but I have short commutes and plan on autocrossing the car quite a bit. Cheap insurance.

I would have dumped the factory fill at 1K miles, but yes you'll still see high(er) Iron and Copper as the motor is breaking in, especially if you are doing longer drain intervals and not getting those break-in metals out of the engine. After about 15-20K miles they shoud level out...when you start seeing spikes of 50-150ppm, then I would worry. I don't know why people freak out over a few ppm...yes the percentage increase may be "high", but really anything more than 10-15ppm is just statistical noise. Major impending failure will not be apparent at those levels, and not really until you get 50ppm+ are you showing signs of damage.

Nice thing is the Amsoil appears to be retaining its grade (12.31cSt), and fuel is low. Oil has lots of calcium for cleanliness, and a decent amount of ZDDP. You'll be just fine.

+1

I got my oil changed before getting it tuned a couple of weeks ago. Didn't have time to do it myself so I took the filter and oil to the Jiffy Lube by my house. Should have seen the look on the guys face when I told him I changed the oil 600 miles ago & I rotate my tires 2 or 3 times a month.

We sell the Amsoil Premium Protection 10w-40 full synthetic that the OP is running for $9/qt. We have several of our customers that go 4,000-5,000 miles in between oil changes.

I have had, ( still do have one) turbo charged engines running Amsoil. My change frequency was 10,000 miles or one year. Filters were every 3000. All had over 250,000 miles when I sold them running fine with good compressions. I originally did oil analysis on them.

Still have one of them.

The only reason I run Amsoil is because you guys recommended it lol. Apparently it was a great recommendation.

Just switched to Rotella T6 at 75k. Changing at 3k to 4k. I'm more worried about burning the oil off too fast. I was going thru about 1 quart of mobil1 5w30 every 1500 miles.
