Default Recommend a tranny shop plz

So I was gonna buy a transmission from ksl and just replace mine but the guy told me he just messed up his first gear and isn't sure what's wrong yet, can anyone tell me a shop to check out to get mine fixed? The one place I went told me $500 get in the tranny an find out what's wrong and after driving it they said front diff syncros and bearings or something quoted me a highest estimate of $2800 to fix so any suggestions of where to go or does this seem like a normal price?

Solid Autoworks doesn't do transmission work. If you want transmission work done I would recommend to go to Karl Martin. PM me if you want this phone number. He will be cheaper than anywhere else you can find...

You could also go talk to Ralph at mark miller Subaru in the southtown auto mall he is there head mechanic and he knows his way around a Subaru, if I'm not mistaken he is the one who built pcskibums ppg tranny that was in the redrocket.

He is also pretty resonable on prices for repairs and upgrades ;-) he is probly one of the best Subie mechanics in the state

He did my PPGs also. I don't think I'd go back to him tho. My transmission always grinded until it blew up. Then it was sent to Andrewtech in Maryland.

Karl can get the parts I believe, but it would be faster for you to bring him everything at once. He did ours in about 6 hours. Out and back in. I have his info too if you need it.

Which story? The one of me having to take my car back there 3 weeks after he installed the gears to have him fix things and make me pay $500 labor again? The transmission did not blow because of him, but my new transmission installed by Andrewtech is MUCH smoother than what Ralph built me.

This is my opinion tho.

That was part of it and there was more, I've had nothing but quality from him. He has even fixed a few other of my friends subies and same result quality.

Awesome, and I'm glad you have heard more to the story. Although there really isn't anything else. Either way it doesn't matter to me who this guy goes to. Hopefully somebody gets him taken care of.

I have tuned around 30 of ralphs cars he has built and can vouch for him he knows what he is doing and is the shop Forman. He has been trained in what he does. I also know things happen that's how it goes with every shop. I also deal with karl of which is good as well. I would goto ralph for work tho.

I know James the owner of J&G, I have dealt with him for going on twenty years now, he has a very reputable shop. Trans work is going to be expensive no matter where you go as it is very specialized as are the tools required. You might also talk to Kevin down at Transmissions Limited in Sandy for another opinion but if some dude quotes you half of what everyone else want's be very weary.....

sorry im retarded ive been reading more online and what do you guys think would it be better if i just bought some RA gears since i need new synchros and bearings anyways i found a couple places that sell them for like 1600 or something so that plus a new front diff with install should be around the price i was quoted anyway but it will be stronger than stock any suggestions?

I have heard that RA gears are really not that much more stout than stock.......I would either buy ppgs, stock replacement, or 6 speed from an sti....If you are trying to do it asap the stock replacement would be the way to go. If you plan on building the car at all then PPG or 6 speed for sure. What is your budget and like Jason said what are your goals?

I'm not sure what future plans on just need it fixed by march so i can go out of town. ive been driving it fine the last month or two tho. i had stuff done before vf34 setup, but my car has almost 150k on it now so i was planning to stay mostly stock so I don't mess anything up i was just wondering about the RA gears cause i read PPG would be better if i was going to be running a lot more power. I was looking for a used tranny but im just worried that if I buy one have it put in and then something else breaks down the road and I'm in the same situation, and i figured if i just have a shop replace what's broken it will be more reliable, I wouldn't mind doing an sti transmission if i could find a setup that had everything i need to swap it to a wrx and it didn't cost a ****load more than I'm already paying so ya...

I would recommend PPG's or a six speed swap. I was quoted by andrewtech for 3250 for the synchro 1-4. You can get a minimum sti swap for around 3 grand. What year is your car?

RA gears are junk. Just buy a stock gearset if you're not planning on making lots of power.
