I wonder if it was a strategy to make it hideous looking compared to the G8 and Commodore so perps will have a hard time distinguishing the nose/headlights from any other bland FWD Chevy... .

It has projector headlights. Those, for me, are easily distinguishable.

Hopefully I'll get to drive one of these cruisers.

I kinda like it. Hard to believe police forces will buy a vehicle not made in US/Canada though

The G8 body is big enough and the tranny and engine choices are good but they will need to talk to actual police officers about things they like about the crown victoria and things they haven't liked about the various vehicles that have tried to replace it wiht over the years

I'm pretty sure that they would have done that by now...

Wait, so what are the engine choices again? Same as Camaro? Does it have optional AWD?

I would think that the Caprice would dominate rural areas, and the AWD Taurus might get the nod in much snowier areas. The FWD Taurus may sell decent in big cities, but Idk.

So, the G8 lives? Killing Pontiac meant killing a VERY good car.... nice to see that it may be coming back as a Chevy. I'm actually looking at a used '09 G8 today.

This explains why I get more looks by 5-0 when I'm driving. I'm waiting for the day when they pull me over; but I won't know if it's to talk or give me a donation slip. I'm hoping for the former

KC, let me know what you think of your test drive

BigElm, I can tell you from my test drive, I was thoroughly impressed (test drove an '09 GT w/approx. 25K miles).
I was stunned when I slowly accelerated on a dry, straight road (in drive), stomped the accelerator and the thing started spinnining the tires (just a bit, not a huge burnout). Had plenty of tread, so it wasn't due to lack of traction (ok, technically it was) however, I would've bought it if I could've gotten past the two-tone red/black leather seats and the price was more in my ballpark.

Plenty of room for my frame as well (even leg - which is typically an issue).

I sign for the '08 (GT/Prem/Sport) tonight for almost the same reasons. Plenty of room, fair gas mileage, some performance, more comfort, quiter, better amenities, than an S2000 driving more than an hour away.

I'm sure you'll find one in your price range, the GT's are becoming more available now that leases are up.

This car has been sold in other markets as a chevy. no real engineering needed.

And its one size up (same platform) from the G8. This will be good.

If it takes off as a cop car, it will likely be sold as a civilian vehicle and could be built in the US if it sells in sufficient #s
