Default Jairen's 2015 WR Blue WRX (Base) Journal/Blog Thread

Proud owner of a brand new 2015 WRX base model.

Long time Subaru fan, first time owner.

Been eying Subaru's for the past decade. I just completed a 3 year tour in Europe and couldn't wait to try the new 2015 WRX's.

As soon as I returned, just minutes after I landed, my first stop was a local Carmax with a "used" 2015 STI on the lot with 200 miles on the odometer. I test drove it, loved it, but not the outrageous price. It was fully optioned with a bunch of factory installed aftermarket parts installed.

Untitled by jairenenguillado, on Flickr

Being that it was Carmax, they just wouldn't entertain my offer or any type of negotiations. With only 200 miles on the odometer, they couldn't tell me the history of STI. Who knows what it has been through. In my mind, I could do a lot of damage and hooning in 200 miles so I passed.

Next day I came across a base 2015 WR Blue WRX. Just in my price range and negotiations were agreed upon. I couldn't be happier. If it wasn't an STI, I wanted a base with nothing else on it. Don't need a sunroof or leather or all the little luxury stuff nor any overpriced dealer installed aftermarket parts.

First road trip to Lake Tahoe to get some seat time in the WRX and to get a general feel of how the car performs.

First mods. Drove to San Jose to pick up the Bayson R front lip and window defectors. I must say that the lip is just raw material. I highly suggest getting it prepped and finished with paint or wrap. Overall fitment was 8.5/10. One of the hole for the front push clips was way off and the kit was missing a few screws. Picked up a few extra screws at Lowe's and the thing is mounted solidly. Still not bad for $100.

Just don't do it. Not worth the time and effort. I followed the instructions exactly and the results were far from pleasing. I bought 3 cans and returned the other 2. Upon peeling the material off, I noticed how thin the material actually is and questioned how effective it would be in paint protection.

I checked their web site and it said their lip is $149 for front lip? Do they have a in store pic up for $100?

Nice ride.

You need to contact them and negotiate. I bought other items as well in person at their San Jose store, so I got a fair discount on my purchase.

What would you suggest for a finish on the lower lip? A spray coat of clear, or you think a professional spray is needed?

Good color choice. I couldn't even entertain any of the other options once I saw WRB.

Made it to Washington state. The rain just won't stop. Beautiful area. Much different than California. People drive A LOT slower. Time settle into the new place and order some REAL mods.

Mods have come to a halt. My priorities have temporary shifted to spending money in purchasing a brand new 2-3,000 square foot house. Starting a new job and going back to school at the same time has occupied my time and research for new mods.

Mileage: 2000-3000

Only a few small mods have been acquired since my last post.

Did you go to a shop for the tailight tints or is that a diy?

I ordered vinyl overlays. Not worth the price of having a shop do the job.

Invidia Q300 CB Exhaust

The tips are dirty and it still needs a little adjustment. It sits too close to the bumper cutouts for my comfort. Much quieter than the Nameless axle-back muffler delete. Sounds like stock from the inside in normal driving.

I got the Invidia for VERY cheap and it's a full CBE. I wanted a full Namelless exhaust, but their production times were weeks behind.

Yes, I did the lights myself. I finally got the courage to do it myself. Scary at first, but it wasn't bad.

I love the headlights. What products and procedures did you use exactly to black out the amber? I have overlays to black them out now, but I don't like how it looks. Yours look sick though!
