Default Random question - location of rear wiper relay on BG/BK wagon?

A few years ago I picked up a JDM rear sedan window and wiper setup from JHot on Ebay. That was just the window itself and the wiper motor and mount with the wiring pigtail. A while later I picked up the combination switch from an Outback Limited wagon, so I've got the "good" switch (retains interval front wiper and adds the rear wiper - the base models didn't keep the interval front wipers).

The one thing I appear to be missing, based on reading my Haynes Manual and the FSM, is the rear wiper relay. So, I'd like to head to the junkyard and get one from a wagon, but I don't know where the thing is. Both the Haynes Manual and the FSM refer to it, and have electrical diagrams showing you how to test the relay, but I have yet to find a drawing that shows where on the car it's located.

If it comes down to it, I'll just start pulling all the interior panels on the junkyard car to follow the wiring. But I'm hoping maybe someone has had to troubleshoot/repair their rear wiper and thus knows where the relay is located. That would save me some time and effort when I head to the junkyard.

So, anyone know?

Thanks,
Pat Olsen

You could always run your own relay. Splice the wires from the wagon steering column switch into it and send it out to the wiper motor. That might be easier than reading a bunch manuals and banging your brain around when you could just sort it out yourself.

Pics when done, that's something you don't see, rear wiper on a 2nd gen.

I have a '97 Outback wagon with a rear wiper. If it wasn't currently underneath about 2 feet of snow I would look around for the relay for you.

mike-tracy already set me straight on SLi - it is in the FSM, I just hadn't looked in the right place.

I would like to make the setup as OEM as possible, so in the end I'll probably just find a wagon at the junkyard and do exactly what I said I was trying to avoid - pull all the panels and grab the entire wire harness, the relay, and all the connectors. Looks like there might be some decent junkyard browsing weather this weekend, so we'll see.

Went to the junkyard today and got what I needed from a donor wagon. Had some fun following the wiring harnesses through the tailgate, up to the transition where it passes from the body into the tailgate, down through the d-pillar and into the rear quarter. Got the relay and all the related wiring.
