Default Insurance rates about to go up on 2011 WRX

Just a heads up that at least here in Michigan, the insurance premiums are about to go up - way up - on the 2011 WRX and STi. My father is an insurance agent with State Farm and he gave me the heads up. This may not apply to everyone as State Farm was using the 2010 model previously as the basis for computing its rates.

However, the reason for the rate increases, at least with State Farm, is that the safety rating is lower than expected, and the collision loss has gone up. Just what I wanted to hear.

Perhaps there's a ton of people reporting accidents which are extremely costly to repair, I dunno.

I am getting the difference e-mailed to me. Its substantial enough that I am going to be going with less coverage and still be paying more than currently.

Not happy at all.

Mine went up recently too. 1800 every 6 months. That's 700 more than previosly and I can't find cheaper. Clean record 21 yo.

I'm selling the car. It's not worth it

How are your rates that high? I thought I was getting shafted and I pay $1500 through Allstate a year with 2 previous tickets for moving violations and I live next to Boston.

I have no idea. I'm going to look at other places at the moment. I live in Houston.

I know when I first bought my 2007 R1 when I was 21 All-State was ripping me at $285/month for full coverage on a damn motorcycle! MY record is clear, I don't understand the problem.

Hmm. I am selling my 2009 sedan because a 2011 hatch was SIGNIFICANTLY lower for insurance. I'll be pissed if I start paying more...

The increase was from MY 2010 to MY 2011. My agent explained this to me when I got the car earlier this year. Are you saying they are increasing the rates above that? The car's only been out for 6 months!

Anywho I pay like 137 / month and my agent said my rates would halve next summer.

I just bought my 2011 Impreza WRX Sedan. I'm 23 and I live in Sioux City, IA. I first was with American Family and they were trying to get me for $175 a month. 100,000/300000 5000 medical 1,000 deductible for both collision and comprehensive. I checked a couple places and Progressive has better for 107. 100,000/300,000 10,000 medical 500 deductible for both collision and comprehensive. I was in a wreck when I was 16 and got a ticket when I was 17 in a state park other then that perfect driving record pass 5 years.

Okay, OP chiming back in.

The rate increase works out to be 16%. And that applies to both Model Year 2010 and 2011. They are both going up for next month.

FYI, but it makes little difference in my case, I am 31, zero pts on my record.

My Premium is going from $860.59/ 6 mo to $1023.05.
That is for Zero deductible on collision when not at fault and Zero Ded for Comp.

Basically, my glass breaks I pay nothing, someone hits me, I pay nothing.

I am going to have to go to a $500 deductible on Collision and probably $100 on Comp. And I will still be paying $54 more every 6 mos than now.

Weird. I'm TX and my rates (47, married, no tickets) *dropped* almost 30% when I traded my '04 WRX for an '11 STi hatch. I think I'm paying about $800/yr now.

The agent did say that the *sedan* would be higher. I'm sure every company has their own way to calculate risk, mine apparently assumes that an STi wagon has market overlap with the Buick Roadmaster.

I literally called my agent today. I just bought a brand new 2011 WRX. My rate is going from $88/month to about $100/mo. However, that is because its brand new. I am 30 with a house through them as well. I did not hear about a rate increase.

I am with State Farm. Best. Insurance. Ever.

You are selling a partially paid off sedan for a slight cut in insurance?

Unless you just bought it outright...

Are you financing? Just saying that doesn't make a lot of sense but whatever works for you.

Comparing what you pay for insurance is rather pointless as there are way too many variables to take into account. Where you live, your age, your marital status, the year of your car, your record, the quality of your coverage, etc.

That makes sense to me. You went from a car that a lot of young people can now afford to one that they can't. Younger people = greater risk.

I feel bad for you all.

My wife and I have a 2010 GMC Terrain SLT-1 and a 2011 STI Sedan and are paying 570 every 6 months. The STI's portion of that runs 52 bucks a month.
