Robert Kubica set for World Rally Championship programme

Former Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica will compete in the 2013 World Rally Championship as he continues to recover from injury sustained in a rally crash.

The Pole, who is targeting a return to Formula 1 after the accident in 2011, has limited movement in his right arm.

"I can't wait to start racing, but I haven't set myself any specific target," said Kubica.

"I still have a lot to learn in rallying and to improve I will need to rack up the miles on the stages."

The 28-year-old last raced in Formula 1 in 2010, and recently tested a DTM German touring car. He is fighting to recover sufficient mobility in his right arm so that he can rotate it in such a way that is required to drive an F1 car.

He can work round the problem in a rally car because there is more space to have his arm out to the side.

The Pole will contest seven rounds of the championship in the WRC2 category, starting in Portugal next month, with the Citroen team.

Citroen said the sport's governing body, the FIA, had given special dispensation for Kubica's car to be fitted with a paddle shift gearbox, making it easier for the Pole.

Kubica, who has competed in several minor rallies since his accident, will also enter this month's Rally Canary Islands as part of a commitment to compete in selected rounds of the European Rally Championship.

I don´t hate him, I think he´s overrated

an interview with Walter Röhrl a few weeks ago, he thinks that Kubica will kill himself if he don´t change his rally driving attitude

Do you realize you're the only one who's posting in this thread, and you're the only one person who's bashing a driver that has more talent that you can fathom ..... get a life dude, troll somewhere else

godforbid. See page 3 of this thread for protocol. No new Kubica thread shall ever be created, nor will this thread title ever be edited.

My guess his performance in the simulator went pretty well.

Looks like it's only a matter of time before he gets his chance in the cockpit again. Ff he indeed wants to take that risk (attempt, and possibly fail)

do you think there is a way to set up an F1 cockpit for a person that has a disabled hand? i bet there is. what a story it would be if he could return and do well in F1.

One would think. His arm strength is fine (and the power steering would aid that anyway), the real issue is the articulation and feel in his hand. Seems to be doing well though. Says its more of an issue out in teh world, and not limiting him when in a racecar. Although I think the narrow cockpit of a single seater makes it tougher for him.

It would be awesome to see...

Hell, I'd take a test role with a back-marker team just so I could rub it in torquemada's face.
