Cool hi guys. close to becoming a subie owner

hi all. first off, im about to buy a 98 impreza with 200,xxx miles on it with a brand new transmission to make it my first subie i have ever owned.i fell in love with the subies after my brother in law owned his 2002 yellow sti and just felt comfortable sitting in it.my other brother in law owns a2006 subie pushing about 400 something hp...but not sure how much it produces on the wheels. anyways ive owned an automatic all my life and finally decide its time to go for the car ive always wanted...well my dream car was always a 2004 sti but getting a subie sounds good enough to me. anyways with a car pushing that much miles...what can i expect? ill take any responses haha thanks and im honored to finally join the love!

Welcome to the forums! If you're in the USA (don't know because your profile isn't filled out), the first year that Subaru brought STis to the states was 2004, so it's unlikely that your brother inlaw had a 2002 STi. We're a pretty good community, even if some of us are a little anal...

I, myself, don't know much about that vintage car, but I've heard that some of the older cars had head gasket issues. That might be something worth searching NASIOC for. One symptom is oil leakage where the head joins the block. There was a fix for it and on a high mileage car like the one you're looking at, the fix may have already been done. Ask the seller if he has had the heads off...

Using proper grammar and punctuation will get you a long way here, people tend to flame over things like misspellings, lack of punctuation, and using "......" for spacing. Good luck with your first Subie. If it was me I would wait until I could afford a newer Wrx instead of buying somthing with mileage that high. Just my .02 cents though!
