Default Fiat 'could move to US'

Quote:
Fiat’s plans to fully merge and integrate with Chrysler over the next three years could see the Italian firm switch its base to America, CEO Sergio Marchionne has revealed.

Speaking at a JD Power industry summit in the US on Friday, Marchionne said: “In the next two or three years, we could be looking at one entity. It could be based here. [We are looking at] alternatives and scenarios. First we need to integrate them [Chrysler and Fiat] operationally and then look at governance.”
Fiat boss: "Hands-off Alfa"
But his comments will need explaining in Italy, where ministers have today insisted that Fiat must remain at its Turin base. Welfare minister Maurizio Sacconi wants to meet Marchionne “so as to verify the state of investments in Italy and the prospects of an integration between Fiat and Chrysler”.

Industry minister Paolo Romani said Fiat must remain "an Italian multinational" and “the head of the car maker must remain in Turin”.
Fiat has rushed to clarify Marchionne’s comments, telling Italian media that it would have four management bases in the future: in Turin, Detroit, Brazil and somewhere in Asia, with Turin retaining a central role.

The sun is setting on Europe. UK will not bail the semi socialist over-spenders and perhaps Germany will bail on them too. So whats left? Giant welfare states unable to support themselves. US still has some wind in it's sails and Asia is coming up fast. Will we learn from our and EU past mistakes?

Last time I've checked the UK also has a pretty extensive (and expensive) welfare program as well. Anyway, please carry on.

If Ferrari moves to the US, all is forgiven. If it's just Fiat, let's bomb Italy.

I think Detroit might have a few office buildings for rent cheap.

They can't possibly do any worse than Daimler and anybody buying any real estate in Detroit should get a medal for bravery. (Or be committed)

In particular China. Maybe we should encourage them to try socialism, it might hold them back.

China would not be steaming ahead as fast as it is if it priced its currency fairly against the market.

Funny how they want to shift the global standard away from the dollar and towards the yuan, but for all intents and purposes the yuan is funny money set artificially low to encourage foreign spending and perpetuate a massive trade imbalance. It's not a sustainable model, the global market will correct one way or another.
