Default Need help, 2013 wrx trans rebuild

Looking for a reputable shop nearby for a trans rebuild. I live about 20 min north of Milwaukee. I have a 2013 wrx, and the trans needs a rebuild. It shifts into to all gears fine and clutch works great. However once you get up to about 25-30mph i get grinding noises. I found metal shavings in the oil . Car has 8900 miles, but no warranty . No i do not beat the car, it was hit when i got it. So Im guessing the wreck did something. I was going to have it towed to the dealer tomorrow if I cant find a place to do it. Then i saw a post about someone paying $7000 for a replacement! I don't want to get a trans from another wrecked wrx for fear of the same thing happening. It sounds like bad bearings but don't know for sure as Im a autobody tech/painter not a mechanic.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Default Trans

Grinding and metal shavings are not a good combo. With no warranty your best bet is to source a used trans and just swap it out. The cost to remove, disassemble, inspect for broken parts and replace whats broken is going to be way more than buying another trans and swapping. Those metal shavings are everywhere inside and causing damage. I used to be a tech at a Suby dealership and have rebuilt numerous trans, trust me a rebuild is not cheap.

This is all based on a shop doing the work. If you pull the trans and have someone open it up to inspect it...well then that is a different story. Worth doing to find out whats broken if that route is doable for you. If you dont, then find a used one. You can always sell the old one to get some money back.

Check Subaru City for swap. They are mod friendly. Ask for Gus.

How is this going? Could Sommers help you? The sales and service end have both always been great to me

Thanks for the help guys. Sommers subaru never called me back so I took it to a trans shop. They had done a few so I felt confident taking it to them.

Just a follow up: Got the car back. Total parts and labor just under $2000. New center differential and transfer case gears. Split the trans case and found no additional damage thankfully. Automatic Transmission Design in Germantown did the work. They have a tech there from a Subaru dealer and few other guys familiar with Subarus. So if anyone needs trans work for a fair price check them out!
