Bought my 2011 STI in the US. Canadian dealers talk about MRSP, US dealers talk about invoice. Plus other things like destination charges are less in the US.

PM me if you want more details so to not derail this thread.

Thanks for the advice!
How much can one (in the USA) typically negotiate price on a brand new car from the factory? (noob question)

Subaru vehicles in the US in this economy? look up invoice pricing on www.edmunds.com, offer 200+ invoice - any factory incentives and dont pay more then 500+invoice...

Edmunds.com lists MSRP prices. Again, noob question, but is invoice what the dealer pays for the car?

Edmunds will eventually show Invoice prices when they have them.

They did something similar with the 08 STI. Free Ipod with a preorder. I am wondering if this one is something they were already planning or is it a "We're sorry" for the inconvenience of the delay. I think it is nice either way.

And your sticker listed it at 29mpg. I have gotten 31.4 on a trip. Now, the sticker on the Impreza is going to say 37, so I am expecting 41-42 on trips.
That would be nice. I'd be happy with a 34-36mpg average.

Same here. I'm getting only 21-22 mpg average on my 2.2L. I don't even romp on it at all (almost granny style driving). I'm VERY excited to see these in person.

Ditto. My 1.8 got ~20mpg, so does my 2.5...

If I were buying one of these, I'm still not certain whether I'd go manual or CVT. I REALLY like how the CVT bumps down to like 1500rpms on the freeway (instead of the 3000rpms like the 5-speeds do at 70mph)

Doesn't the 2012 5 speed have different gearing than previous years?

Impreza 2012 5-door CVT
USA = 22095.00

Does it includes Moonroof + Nav or these options are 2K extra?

For the Canadians out there looking for trim level descriptions:

Standard comfort and available amenities have increased across the Impreza line for 2012. The 2.0i entry model, for example, features power windows, door locks and side mirrors, a 60/40-split flat-folding rear seat, outside temperature gauge, heated body-colour exterior mirrors, cruise control, a multi-function display with fuel economy information, remote keyless entry system, security system with engine immobilizer, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, variable intermittent windshield wipers and a low windshield washer fluid warning light.

Impreza 2.0i Touring models add more amenities, including 16-inch alloy wheels, an advanced AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA audio system with six speakers, voice-activated Bluetooth® hands-free system, steering wheel-integrated hands-free and audio controls, a MediaHub for iPod®/USB audio integration with Bluetooth streaming audio, a rear stabilizer bar for crisper handling, heated front seats, automatic headlights and a front windshield wiper de-icer among others.

The Impreza Sport Package adds 17-inch alloy wheels, power sunroof, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear selector, upgraded gauges, automatic climate control, aerodynamic side ground effects, front fog lights, rear spoiler and a stainless steel exhaust tip on 4-door models. A 4.3-inch multi-function display, which is a fully bilingual system that is not available in any other North American market aside from Canada, offers a wide array of fuel consumption data as well as maintenance reminders. Also included in this system is a Vehicle Dynamics Control monitor, which displays All-Wheel Drive in action on slippery surfaces.

At the top of the Impreza range for 2012, the Limited Package delivers the highest level of comfort and convenience ever offered in a Subaru Impreza. Building upon the Sport Package content, the Limited Package adds dual-zone automatic climate control, HID headlights, leather seating surfaces, outside mirror-integrated LED turn signals, a Pioneer® display audio system and SIRIUS® Satellite Radio with 3-month trial subscription as well as chrome trim on the truck lid and exterior door handles.

I was curious about the manual gearing and here is what I found:

2011 Impreza 5MT:1st 3.454, 2nd 2.062, 3rd 1.448, 4th 1.088, 5th .780. Final 3.9

2012 Impreza 5MT:1st 3.454, 2nd 1.888, 3rd 1.296, 4th 0.972, 5th 0.738, final 4.111

Well, there's some stuff we'll see swapped into US Imprezas.

Assuming the same tire size, they both have the same MPH at 3000rpms with those two final/5th gear ratios. There isn't a change then in freeway RPM's

My Grabber AT2's dropped my RPMs like 300 in 5th gear due to the huge change in tire diameter. But that will never beat the CVT's ability to cruise in low RPM's.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was really disappointed that there were no projector or HID headlights available. At least now I know I can get them for a price.

I don't know much about gearing but what freeway speed will 3000RPM give? Also, if you're bothered by the high freeway RPM because of engine noise, the 2012 impreza is supposed to have a quieter engine and cabin so maybe it won't be so bad?

Lower RPMs on the freeway = lower MPG. Its why cars like the Corvette can get 30mpg on the freeway since they are basically idling while cruising in top gear.

I don't care about engine noise. I'd throw a muffler on the new 2.0 pretty quick just to know how it sounds.

Is Subaru Navigation system any good?
I've notice some complains that direction can not be changed/altered when vehicle is in motion.
Is the system accurate? Does it include maps of entire North America?

$1000 sticker price of useless thing is a bit too much. Going with stand alone system might be a better deal.

Isn't that backwards?

Low RPMs on the freeway = Higher highway MPG?

Your example is apt.

But it also depends on a certain amount of latent torque. Overdrive is by definition mechanical dis-advantage, so the engine, to be able to accelerate at highway speeds, to maneuver, requires enough torque to overcome the dis-advantage, and the vehicle's inertial resistance to acceleration, based on it's mass. F=MA, so A= F/M.

An anemic little engine, or an low-compression engine that requires dynamic pressure from a turbocharger's input for it's higher power levels, require more RPMs to make that torque to be drivable and not woefully handicapped on the highway.

EJ turbos cruise at ~3000rpms... and say what you want about engine noise, but the constant buzzing gets tedious and uncomfortable after 800 miles, when you're tired from driving.

EG and EZ 6-cylinders cruise at about 2000-2200lb, by comparison, with more pistons firing, and more static compression ratio, for more latent torque, even if the top end rush isn't as big as the EJ turbo.

The 165hp impreza in 5th has a marginally higher RPM at the same speed than my old 88hp ford escort. Yes I did need to downshift way more. No it didn't make my life miserable. 2500 rpm @ 70mph instead of 3000rpm would be perfectly acceptable

HID projectors???? LED mirrors? . At least it partially justifies the horrendous price difference in between CA and US.
