I've said it many many times- go get an GC8 2 door RS and put an STi Drivetrain in.
You new guys! The 2.0L Turbo GC8 was never sold here. The sedan 2.5RS up to 2001 was the GC6. The 2.5RS Coupe was the GM6. Come on, brush up on that Impreza model knowledge. After all this is NASIOC.

Now, I don't see why there can't be a 2 door coupe version of the new Impreza for Hip. The roof line sure would be complimentary to it. Could happen.

+1. lots of newbs here with no knowledge of models, somehow all classic imprezas are refered to GC8.

This is the funniest thing that I have ever read on this site. You are right, that's for sure. But with that logic, all cars should have no more than 25 HP.

If you don't want an Impreza coupe then don't buy one. It's as simple as that.

Usually at this point you'd hear someone saying things like "my dealer told me they were invited to see the new model and it looks.... and has..." or "my friend went to some secret event and saw the new model it is had this and that in it as well as and..."

All that's going on in this thread is a giant circle jerk about a totally different car, which is completely unrelated to this thread.

I actually do not know all that much about pre 2002 imprezas so yes I refer to them all as GC8s. Just the same as people refer all post 2008 imprezas as GRs when there's the GH and I believe the GV now? Point being you all understand so don't be so fussy with the tiniest details.

As a continuation of thought from a previous post I made in another thead...

Being that the Impreza line hasn't really changed in price at all since introduction and adding to that the fact that Subaru has been selling very well, do you think we will see a substantial increase in price for the new line?

With the development of the new engine I think that we'll probably see a fairly decent increase in the overall price of the line (from base to STI).

Good burn, that guy is way outclassed. It's a GC, a pre bugeye. The one that looks like a Mirage.

I think it will become slightly more expensive due to logistics issues with the earthquake. Outside of that I do not see them raising the price to stay competitive. As much as they advanced some things- they cut alot out too to make up for it.

Any ideas on what they would cut out to keep the prices the same? It's not like they've been erasing a lot of high-priced options

As demand increases it's likely to increase the price of the vehicle as parts suppliers struggle to keep up with the new demand for Subaru components. With a new engine and design happening this year (along with a new product?), I wonder what people would be willing to accept for a price of a new base Impreza...

Alot of small things. Heated wipers, folding side mirrors, radios keep getting worse and worse, steel wheels, steel hoods, no coin holder, etc etc.

This isn't to say the things they did add don't outweigh what they took out but they still took them out. They also found ways to produce cars cheaper like changing the factory lights(not the car itself) to save energy, reusing engine crates, reducing use of card board and more.

I think price will stay low or even drop. Manufacturing costs are supposed to be lower for the engine, and their partnership with Toyota should help as well, possibly through economy of scale and adoption of more efficient processes. Shipping costs could go up due to infrastructure damage and rising fuel prices. I think the value of the Yen will likely be the driving force behind any significant increase of the actual vehicle price, though.

This is definitely worth re-posting here from the "quake shuts 5 FHI factories" thread (bold emphasis added, "Doll" is SOA COO Tom Doll):

Quote:
Even now, Doll said he believes Subaru remains on track to top its 2010 record of 263,820 vehicles sold. In an interview Tuesday in his office overlooking the Cooper River, Doll said higher oil prices hadn't dissuaded him from that notion.

"I think that actually helps us," he said.

Pain at the pump helped convince gas guzzler owners to switch to Subaru before, he said. It may again, especially if the company can deliver on what it expects to announce at the New York International Auto Show next month - a 30 percent increase in fuel efficiency in its new models.

How would it do that? Doll wouldn't tip his hand.

Have you been following the exchange rate news? The Yen has risen to all time highs against the dollar and the you can bet that the Earthquake caused the SOA executives a lot of exchange rate pain added on to what they felt for their homeland. That has likely eaten up all of the cost savings the new engines and models will bring. If, IF, the Yen follows the forecasts for the rest of the year they might be able to hold prices steady but if the Dollar stalls against it then there will be price increases. Look here:

^I don't follow currency rates that closely. Thanks for the info. Seems we do both agree the Yen will be the determining factor in price increases. We'll see how the dollar does, too.

All the more reason for Subaru to add capacity in the US.

Specs are not in US measurements, and just because it's on Subaru Global website doesn't mean it's showing up in the US. Subaru Global also shows Legacy wagon, 5-pass Tribeca, Impreza XV, 2.0 and 1.5L engines and diesel engines.

The current generation Impreza has had advanced keyless entry (push button start) in the Japanese market for several years now without us getting it here in the US on any model so I don't see that pic as evidence that we'll see it offered here. (even though I love that feature)

That very well could be the 5-door version of the next impreza.

The front fenders look chunky enough compared with the IDC

The front side windows are truncated, and don't go all the way to the A-pillar base corner, neither did the IDC sedan.

The side mirrors are big as barn doors thanks to recent regs, and not anchored at the window line, but on a pedestal to the door.

There is still quite a lot of camouflage, there, though.

Blue Ancatara option for STi, or even WRX would be sweet! I felt sad the year Subaru switched to plain black cloth in both STi and WRX.

I'm excited about the 2012 model and I can't wait until the NYauto show to see how the production model looks. If they fix up that front end a bit (lose the eyelids too), give it better MPG and keep the price around $17K for a base model then I'll probably trade in my 2007 Impreza for this one and keep it for years and years to come.
