I installed a Honda (Acura) accessory leather wrap on the Integra I used to have. Since it was brand specific it fit well. It did take a while to thread through all of those tiny holes.

Not a deal killer to me, but definitely handy for myself, and other families with youngins.
I sat in a 2012 Impreza 4 door Limited model this week. We currently have a 2005 Outback with a 2 year old in a car seat. I was surprised to find that the that the legroom (front and back) in the 2012 seems to be equal to the current legacy, and maybe even better than our 05 Outback. The cabin width is not as wide as the legacy, but seemed to be sufficient. The leather interior was very nice.

One car seat in the back should be no problem, two can fit, but then that would likely be all there is room for. We are thinking of trying a smaller car seat like the Go Hybrid, to make sure there is as much room to fit two people in the back with the car seat on the occasion we need to fill the car.

One thing I noticed in person is that the front end kind of reminded me of a Civic, which I didn't notice in the photos. The engine seems to sit lower than the outback, but that could be an illusion with the dark intake.

Thanks. It's ridiculous not to have a leather-wrapped steering wheel until you go all the way to Limited or Sport Limited.

I installed a Wheelskins on a Honda as well. Turned out great and I will do it again on any car I own that does not have a leather wheel.

Because they are car/model specific, the fit is tight and perfect. Just pick a color scheme that isnt ricey.

You can get leather wrapped steering wheel on the premiums with the All-weather, 17" alloys, and moon roof package. But then you are touching the Limited in price.

For me I want a manual for sure so I would go for the premium with the package for the leather steering wheel.

Default Rear backup camera on new Impreza???

Anyone in the know as to if there will be a rear view camera offered as an accessory, either through the Limited's 4.3" screen, optional nav screen, or through a rear view mirror (like the one on the Outback when you order the moonroof)?

I'm actually surprised this feature omission hasn't been mentioned on this forum. I have a rear view camera on my 2010 Outback's nav, and I'll NEVER get a new car without one. Best safety feature since seat belts.

On a similar note, has anyone ever retrofitted an aftermarket OEM-style rear view camera mirror like the Gentex's Subaru uses? I researching this as a possible solution to this otherwise deal-breaking dilema. See here for examples: http://www.mitocorp.com/auto-dimming...a-display.html

Even better would be if anyone could confirm that the 4.3" display on the Limited's stock (non-nav) head unit has a rear camera input that Subaru just isn't using. Then I'd just need to hack in a rear camera.

Thanks!

Default First Subaru

Just wanted to post I have ordered a 2012 base Impreza, my first Subaru.
I test drove the Legacy with CVT twice, and really liked it, but just needed a bit more mpg. I know some people complained about the Legacy power/acceleration, but it was fine by me.

I am replacing a 1999 Honda Civic with 173,000 miles on it, and have had several other Honda's (Pilot/Odyssey).

This Impreza was what I was waiting for, a commuter car that can handle the winter elements, perfect for living in Michigan.
So, Yes, score one for Subaru, in there goal of converting more people over.

Edmunds review is up, and pretty much sums up my thoughts.

"The 2012 Subaru Impreza 2.0i offers secure handling, nicely weighted steering, solid-feeling brakes and a ride that's compliant but nicely buttoned down. Its new four-cylinder engine returns excellent fuel economy for a car with all-wheel drive, but acceleration is a bit off the pace. For folks living in the snowbelt, the extra traction and peace of mind that all-wheel drive provides will likely be worth pokier acceleration."

JoePa (and anyone else who may have pre-ordered in Oct), Is the $500 pre-order promo from SOA for dealer accessories still on (the one where you get the e-mail from Subaru directly)?

At least one post earlier in the thread stated it ended 9/30, and I'm trying to decide if I should pull the trigger on ordering or waiting till inventory catches up with demand. Really appreciate any recent experiences here!

I ordered my 2012 Impreza (Sport Limited CVT) last Saturday and got the "pre-order promo" email this past Tuesday from SOA. My understanding is that gift runs till 10/31, but I don't recall if I read that somewhere or was told by a dealer. In any case, SOA is still offering the $500 of accessories, extended warranty, bike ($500 value) or skis ($500 value) as of earlier this week (I chose the $500 of accessories).

A lot of dealerships are doing no-risk ordering (i.e. if you don't want the car when it comes in, no problem - they will refund your deposit. So no real good reason to wait and miss the promo if you are seriously considering the vehicle!

Default What accesories will you chose?

Hi, I ordered a 2012 sport premium, 5 speed, ice silver three weeks ago. I chose the $500 in accessories. I haven't seen a catalog or pricing for the 2012's yet. If it is similar to the 2011 accessories I will probably choose the all weather mats, cargo net, auto dim mirror, sti pedal set, mud flaps, and maybe floor light kit. I wonder if the dealer is going to install these items at a reasonable rate? What is everyone else going to choose?

For those that are asking. The "Love is worth waiting for" pre-order incentive is good thru Oct 31st.

They will install them but not at a reasonable rate. The good news is all of those are easy installs and you could do them in your driveway.

Default Easy install

The only items I worry about installing are the auto dim morror and light kit. I hope the mirror is pre wired for power. I will search the forums for the how to's for the sti pedal install and the light kit.

Thumbs down Thanks for nothing, Subaru

Received a lovely email from Subaru stating that the '12 Impreza could be seen at the rinky-dink Auto Show at the Nassau Coliseum this weekend. The title of the email is just that:

"Come see the all-new 2012 Impreza at the Long Island Auto Show"

Fine. My local dealer doesn't have one yet, so let's see one in person.

After $25.00 in RT tolls (though the 'auto show' and parking was free) and the misfortune of having to interact with LI trash, the car wasn't there. Even better? There were no Subaru reps nearby for me to rip into.

Here's a video of what I got at Bridge day of the 2012 imprezas.
I dont really care for the sedan and the tan interior. feels a little too much like a civic sedan to me.

This was there too

From Edmunds review "While the new look is hardly what we'd call handsome..."

I suppose this is a good time to remind myself that looks are subjective. From the pictures and videos on this thread, I think this is a good looking car.

If I decide to sell the WRX in an attempt to save some money (about $200/month) I think it will be a comparison between the following hatchbacks: 2012 Impreza (premium or limited), 2012 Mazda 3 with Skyactiv, 2012 Veloster, and VW Golf TDI.

Looking forward to the Impreza showing up at the local dealership so I can go drive one!

Finally was able to see the 2012 Impreza in person this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised by the leather upholstery. I was expecting it to be pretty crappy but it was actually decent.

One thing I did notice was its size. It felt kind of small and this is coming from driving a 99 civic. I wonder how much smaller the 2011 feels considering they made the 2012 interior bigger. Also, the soft touch material they keep emphasizing, My 99 civic has a similar material too. What happened between 1999 through 2011?

The oil filter on top was really nice, but you still have to deal with the drain plug regardless. I asked where the plug was and the dealer had no clue. I was hoping it was close to the front, but I'm sure they placed it inconveniently further back on the engine next to the hot exhaust manifolds like the 2011 Legacy.

Overall I was pretty impressed with it. I wonder how it actually feels when driving though.

I've been wondering the same thing. Since the radio is supposedly the same as the the unit in the 2011 Forester and a backup camera is offered for it, I assume that one can be retrofitted. We'll find out soon enough.

yes, sorry about that - the car was involved in an accident on the way to the show. We hope you weren't too badly inconvenienced.
