I'll have to turn my radio off & pay attention on that one. Nothing I've noticed thus far.

Minor detail... but I really wish there was a concealed change compartment.

  • CVT
  • Moonroof
  • Navigation
  • Rear Roof Spoiler
  • Sport Mesh Grille
  • Cross Bar Set-Aero (Sport)
  • Extended Cargo Carrier
  • Auto Dim mirror with Homelink
  • Side Sill Plates
  • STI Pedals Set
  • Cargo Nets (rear, seat back, sides)
  • Cargo Tray & Rear Seat Protector
  • Luggage Compartment Cover
  • 110 Volt Outlet
  • Upgraded Speakers
  • Tweeter Kit

In addition to the above options I'll be doing a few select mods to the car, once we live with it for a while (this will be my wife's daily driver, and our weekend "excursion" car). Namely, I plan on adding some 18x8.5 Rota Grids in Hyper Black wrapped in 235/40-18 Conti DWS's. I might think about some coilovers as well (I have KW's on a BMW 335i and love the ability to control the height and dampaning).

This car is more about functionality with some style than anything else...as the aforementioned E90 is my performance outlet. Here's an example of my taste in mods, in case your interested...

It seems like this Impreza is a pretty controversial design ...some enthusiasts love it, and some hate it. This is my first venture into the Subaru world, but I must say that I really liked this car from first site.

Pics to come, just as soon as the car arrives!
where do u locate my local dealer had the same car u ordered available

I'm using the console tray for now. Also wanted concealment, so that's my 3rd place so far. I like that the coins stick to the surface and don't slide around there, and that they're easy to see and pick up. The reach is awkward and coin use limits the tray use, so I'm still working on it!

There was no reason a 2007 could tow, but not a 2008. They technically had the same drivetrain. That was just a arbitrary decision on Subaru's part, I reckon.
Australia had a tow package for the 08+. Maybe they still do for the 12s over there. So, maybe Subaru just doesn't make more than one frame. We have mounting holes, just not "allowed" to.

The AWD was a big deal for me to get the Subaru instead and I am extremely happy with my purchase but the Mazda was a very fun car to drive. If fuel economy and a more 'peppy' powertrain are more important than AWD, the Mazda beats the Impreza. How much more is it to get the SkyActiv? Would it really be worth it?

.
Got to drive one during our Impreza training. I know opinions differ, but I am still wondering how the 3 is more fun to drive than the Impreza. The 3 understeers soooooooo bad. It's engine may be more peppy, but that was about it when we were driving them. The Impreza's steering was much tighter and easier to control than the 3. What is the cost to get the SkyActiv? Is it really worth the extra cost?

Default 2012 5 door 5-speed with nav?!

Just wondering if anyone has been able to pull this off. I've talked to the dealer about it but on paper it doesn't seem like Subaru is making this an option. If I begin to build i have to choose the CVT before I can add the nav... Has anyone been successful in getting a 5spd with navigation? I just recently sent an e-mail to my dealer asking if the dealership could just install a purchased navigation system in place of the standard radio that comes in the premium models.

Does ANYONE have stock 5spd with Nav or is this like.. completely banned.

Yeah - I hear you. The lack of a small drawer for gate keys and change is disappointing. Same with the sun visors. The area between them is huge and perfect for searing the retinas on the drive home. Other than that, the car is a pleasure to drive.

Yep I checked that before, the Mazda does cost more to ensure. I guess more Mazda's are involved in accidents? I guess the tradeoff is : Mazda has better sound system, HID's as option, better color combos (white/black), sportier engine.

I think the internet is good for narrowing down the field of car choices and understanding expected purchase price. When it comes to actually selecting which exact car to buy, my opinion is that it's a better idea to get in the cars, do a lot of test driving, and choose the one you personally prefer. On that note, I consider the Mazda 3 a strong contender for cheapest compact interior.
Totally agree with you, internet forums aren't the "best" way to go but there have been so many posts about users who have feathered the gas pedal only to see disappointing results in MPG, my #1 reason for originally wanting an Imprezza was great MPG with AWD (unheard of at the time).

Also agree with you about interior on Mazda's. Some of the parts on the Mazda (even the Grand Touring model) seemed cheapy (i.e. window switches/door handles etc).
The few things I like are (see above reply to hindukid.

I really want to buy the Imprezza but I drive 70miles everyday so fuel economy is #1 to me. My current 1997 Geo Prizm (aka Toyota Corolla) gets 31MPG. Don't see the point in forking over $26k for a sport limited that gets the same or most likely less fuel mileage than a Geo.

That's the interlock that prevents you from shifting from park to reverse/drive unless you have your foot on the brake.

I was driving and tried to put the car in neutral while stopping, still makes that noise. I tried slowing down really slow and it still made the noise. I bet this only happens to my car.

The shift lock you are referring to happens when the car is in park and you hit the brake. It should have nothing to do with when the car is in drive and you're slowing down.

I was considering the '12 impreza and Mazda 3. I ended up with the 3 skyactiv.

The interior in the 3 is better than my 05 wrx and on par, in terms of materials, with my '10 Outback that I traded in. I can't comment on the '12 impreza as I've never been in one, but it must be better than the bland 08-11 interiors.

As for gas mileage, I'm averaging 36mpg on 30/70 city/highway driving. That's calculating miles over gallons used, not the trip computer.

Except the *interlock* is activated based on the vehicles speed.

I'm having a hard time understanding what you're saying. You said the interlock prevents you from shifting from park into reverse and drive without pushing the brake. I'm an in the car in drive and slowing down, how does this apply to what I am talking about? I'm not trying to be crass, just trying to understand from your previous statement.

Does this happen to you as well? It seems to click when I'm about 2-3 MPH.

Ya know, I think that's what it was.

I'm with you: what's the point?
Am I supposed to pull over to the side of the road and dance a little jig?
Or what?

Perhaps that is to remind the driver how long he/she has been driving for - a possible indicator to take a break.

Well then why doesn't a robotic arm come out of the dashboard, roll down the passenger window, reach over and turn off the key, yank it out and throw it out the window?

Seems more fail-safe, no?

The interlock that forces you to press the brake, so that you can shift out of park, is only used when the car is stopped, or just barely moving. Once you are up to speed, the click you hear retracts that solenoid (or whatever it is) so that you can freely shift.

My audi did this very noticably. If you were rolling slower than 3-4 mph, you couldn't shift from neutral to drive, either.

I guess I could have thought about this a bit more last nite, and posted more clearly, but you get what you pay for...

I only hear it when I am slowing down. Nothing when I'm accelerating. Do you hear the noise as well? I'm just wondering if all CVTs do it.

If not for AWD, I would totally get the Mazda SkyActive, despite it having somewhat lesser quality, maybe a Focus, depending on how much it's SFE package costs. A SkyActive mostly because it is faster, better EPA gas millage and better ride.
RE gas-millage, I believe it is too soon to give judgment on what owners are getting. Even the SkyActive is getting high variance on Fuelly.
