I actually got a better deal on the Mazda3 SkyActiv 6MT... but I opt'ed for the 2.0i Sport Premium 5MT.. just cause of AWD. Paying an extra 2k for it, and have to wait for it :\

I'm purchasing a new daily driver by month's end. I was considering a 2012 Toyota Yaris SE or Honda Fit Sport.

Is this new Impreza fun to drive? It's only $2000 more than I was going to spend anyway, so I added it to the list of possible A-to-B whips. A local dealer has a SWP base hatch with a manual trans that caught my attention.

Too many cycles and loud stereos...

I just picked my sport premium 5spd up yesterday. I have about 150 miles on it today (considerable driving, love it). Obviously still in break-in but with a good mix of country and city driving I am averaging 29.6 mpg. Pretty good considering still in break-in and what others have reported. I can't attest to how "fun" it is due to break-in period but I am absolutely enjoying the car thoroughly.

My friend has a Honda Fit Sport and it is peppy but I don't know if I would call it fun to drive. I guess the main point with the Fit is just that it is bigger on the inside - timelord technology, I know! I have no experience with the Yaris.

In my opinion, the AWD alone trumps competitors.

I hope that helps, Evil STI...

Yes, considering it's an underpowered economy car.

My last car was underpowered too (2007 Nissan Altima) so that doesn't bother me much. This handles much nicer than the Altima, in my opinion. I was in some excellent twisties last week and it was planted and predictable when I was pushing it.

I still miss the power of the WRX but not the fuel bills.

Yup, heard the click just under the shifter. Just took a quiet night drive with the radio off & I hear it when stopping. Ever so slight but once I heard it once I heard it every time. Nothing of concern to me, don't think you either, but you're not alone, my CVT does it too.

Sweet! I am so happy that it isn't a problem with my car.

Cool, with the 31 mpg I have two Subies now so I know the awd is never going to be great but I am hoping for 34-40

I was in my garage a few hours after driving my car and I noticed the emissions pump mechanism going off. I took a short video of it for those who have never heard it. Sounds like a mini pneumatic air compressor.

Not sure if it's just your mic but that sounds really loud. Must make a few passerbys wonder what it is if it's parked on the street.

It sounds louder in the video than it did in person. The car was also parked in a closed garage. Sounds tend to amplify.

Got my Impreza stuck in the mud again yesterday. Not impressed with the electronics not letting you pull your way out. Probably a combination of the crappy 15" Yokohamas as well. I had to get pulled out by an older Impreza ('98), they had no problem driving though the same section to come get me. Not impressed.

Update (picked up my pre-order on Dec 17th).

Driven 3200 miles already in the Tri-state area (PA, NJ, NY). A lot of mixed driving between local roads to work and 4 hour+ highway trips for hockey games.

Gas mileage given the weather and my driving habits is in the 27-33 range; haven't seen anything higher but i feel like that will change after it warms up and after my first oil change (tomorrow). I average 75-80 MPH on highways.

Only driven through 4 inches of snow or so, and plenty of rain. Car handles both like a champ (even on those so called 'crappy' avid tires).

Disappointments: sound clarity from sound system and my inability to reach the advertised 36 MPG.

Now, do i get the speaker upgrade or the tweeter upgrade? I'm itching to spend my $500 in accessories gift!

Holy crap James, where are you driving? Pics? I wonder how much of your 'stuckness' has to do with the torque distribution? One thing I like about my STI over this car is the DCCD (Driver Controlled Center Differential), which allows you to lock the center diff for 50/50 torque split.

Are you turning off the traction control when you try to pull out of the mud?

I believe that is a "reverse lock out" so you cant in advertantly put it in reverse while moving forward at any significant speed.

Thanks for the feedback, that sounds like a plausible reason for it. I assume you're hearing it as well?

It does sound exactly like the shift lock noise - like when you have the car in park and you hit the brake.

Even with the traction control "off," the brake system still intervenes when there is too much slip coming from the tires. I think that is the issue James was having since he couldn't pull himself out.

Dropped off the Impreza today to fix some problems. I wonder how long they will keep it this time...

Yes, i hear it sometimes if ambient noise is low. I have actually heard it in many automatic cars, so it's not just this particular cvt. It's a pretty standard idiot proofing that has probably been around forever. It is probably louder in some cars than other s though. But, yes, no need to be worried. There is nothing wrong with your car this time.

Fuel gauge was mis-reading after fill-ups. 3/5 times it didn't read full when the pump clicked; once it read 3/4 full and 2 other times it was one bar below full.

I'm also complaining about the road noise. There is a metallic echo from the car when I close the center console firmly and I think that is related to the road noise I hear. Just doesn't seem to have any sound deadening if I can make the car ring by closing my center console.

Fyi, I hear the echo youre referring to. I believe its normal and I would not worry about it.
