My 5 Speed Sport Premium just turned 1k on the odometer. I am still very much enjoying this car. I am not however enjoying the fuel mileage, or lack there of I should say. According to my Fuelly account, I have been averaging 26.1

http://www.fuelly.com/driver/sidewindor/impreza

Now a few of my fill ups have been partials, but I expect that this number should increase as the car adds more miles and the weather changes.

The only other thing that I am not to thrilled about is the engine sound. Specifically in relation to my shifting. It sounds like it is revving so high when it is still at lower RPMs, has anyone else noticed this in their 5 speed? I shift between 3000 and 3300 RPMs and it sounds like its at 5000 - 5200. It has thrown me off a bit.

Unless you have a SPORT model it is not meant to be taken off road (manual page 8-6). So yes, it is probably a combination of the tires and the small wheels.

Does anyone know what the design differences are that differentiate the Sport and other models in off-road performance? The only things that I can think of are wheels and an extra 0.2 inches of ground clearance (and the roof rails, of course, a critical but often forgotten component of a good off-road design).

Thanks!

I'm not aware of anything besides what you mentioned. The manual actually has a caveat about how you can read the same off-road section for all of the models.

It looks like you're actually very close to the combined rating of a manual for the 692 miles, because the calculated miles are listed as being more city than the EPA estimate. You're estimating that you've drove 69% city and averaged 26.1 MPG. Considering I believe the EPA combined estimate is figured with 55% city, it works out very close to the 28 MPG combined rating for a manual.

Premium, Sport and Limited also all have a rear sway bar included, along with the bigger wheels (16" or 17")

How many milimeters's is the stock sway bar and how many is the 'upgraded' one? any idea if it's solid or hollow?

I had a 24MM H&R on my previous car and it was a night and day difference compared to stock.

I don't know if it's the absolute best pricing, but for the dealerships in my region 25% off plus shipping from Heuberger seemed reasonable and my order arrived in just a few days http://parts.subaru.com/?siteid=215892

It measures 12mm or 14mm (I just put a ruler next to it, I have a better tool but I didn't want to spend the time searching for it), solid steel.

The base model does not have a sway bar, so it is not stock vs upgrade. I'm guessing if Subaru sells a sway bar for those with a base model, it would be identical to the one on my Sport.

I'm sure you could upgrade it to a stiffer and wider bar. I won't bother because I think the car handles fine as is, but then again I never really "tune" my cars, any time I spend upgrading is done on my motorcycle (though it is pretty much upgraded at this point as much as I want it to be).

Default looking for 2012 Subaru Impreza 2.0i(base Trim ) CVT Automatic w/ no other options

In SF Bayarea , looking for 2012 Subaru Impreza 2.0i(base Trim ) CVT Automatic w/ no other options.(not even carpet if it's cost extra)

-What's the best price I can find in next two weeks?
-I just want the lowest price trim (base ) do CA have to force buyer to buy the "PZEV" model ?
-One thing I can't confirm when I do my research is (2012 Subaru Impreza 2.0i(base Trim ) CVT Automatic ) don't even come with Aux jack ? is this true ? I don't need ipod/iphone port, ALL I need is an AUX input jack for my Android phone.

Thanks for the info; i feel that you're right. I still have my lead foot problems coming from another car and tend to take on/off ramps a little fast and don't really like the body roll. I do agree though, this car handles well in all other aspects.

Rumor or have you seen someone try it? That sounds like a pretty good and simple upgrade.

MSRP of a PZEV base model sedan with CVT is $19,545, what you pay is up to you and the dealer.

In California you have to buy PZEV -- just like I did in NY along with residents of many other states.

The base model does not have cruise control, radio controls on the steering wheel, nor does it have an aux input. Floor mats are included, free.

The AUX jack is a $99 option available for base models. But price the Premium model and make sure you will be happy buying the base model when the Premium package probably offers more (including that it will be easier to resell than a base model, particularly because of the cruise control and the larger tires/alloy wheels).

Pretty much everything you need to know is right here:

Yes, you have to get PZEV. You should be able to get invoice or under if you e-mail each of the dealers you're willing to drive to. You can search inventory through subaru.com to find base models at the nearest dealerships. No aux jack on the base.

Really, if there's any way you can swing it, the Premium is worth it for both amenities and ride/handling, plus resale. Premium adds cruise control, aux jack, rear stabilizer bar & rear suspension rebound springs, paddles for the CVT (allowing some level of manual control for quicker passing or downhill coasting), aux jack & wireless bluetooth (w/steering wheel controls) for your Android, alloys instead of plastic wheel covers, and more. You'll also have better resale... many potential buyers won't even consider a car without cruise control.

Good luck! Let us know what you get or if there are more questions.

EDIT: I see Zeeper beat me to it, but I'll leave my reply too.

My state doesn't require PZEV, but my dealership "tried" to get me to switch my car to a PZEV a week after I ordered my car from them! They called me up and said my car would take longer to get since Subaru was "only" allocating PZEV versions of the car first to all dealerships! I was very suspicious.

So I called up a few other dealerships in the area and asked them about it without leading them on to any particular answer. They all gave me this line, "The new 2012 Impreza will have PZEVs in all 50 states"! Ha!!!

What they failed to mention, that I already knew, from research I've done on my own, was that it's "available" in all 50 states, but not "required"

I was going to call out my dealer on this, but before I did, they said they had misread the allocation and that I would get the car I originally ordered. I knew something was fishy because it wasn't my original salesman who called me, it was his "Boss". I never heard back from the "Boss" ever again. I also told them I was willing to wait anyways since I didn't need the car immediately. This was the only thing that troubled me about my car buying experience, everything else was excellent. So no harm, no foul, I guess

Wow -- the base does not include paddle shifters?

Seriously, price the Premium. I'm pretty cheap but I went with a Sport manual transmission because I liked the extras -- stereo, heated seats, 17" wheels, stabilizer bar, fog lights etc.

Here's what I ordered, but I ended up taking off the remote start and hood protector. Option prices include installation. In hindsight, I should have taken off the crossbar set as well, much cheaper aftermarket solutions out there.

Dark Gray,

$23,345 Sport Limited Impreza including destination charge
$ 2,000 Moonroof + Navigation
$ 69 All weather mats
$ 249 Body side molding
$ 71 Cargo nets (rear side - 2 of them)
$ 397.95 Crossbar set round
$ 195.95 Hood protector
$ 91 Rear bumper applique protector
$ 71 Rear Cargo tray
$ 60 Rear seat back protector
$ 689.99 Remote engine starter
$ 239 Aero splash guards
$ 327 Sport mesh grille
$ 129 Strake kit
$ 51 Wheel locks

$ 27,985.89 Total configured
- 600.00 Internet discount

$ 27,385.89 Ordered price- you'll just need to add tax/title/license

Your car will look very pretty when you get it, but coming from someone that pre-ordered a 2011 WRX with options, in hindsight I wouldn't have got most of the stuff I ordered, although I am glad I drove away with an STI short-shifter since I do feel that's worth the money.

Accessories for the interior or exterior, though, can wait and only add to the monthly payments.

Take off the grille, strakes, crossbars, aero splash guards and wheel locks and see if you like that price better.

With that plus what you took off, that's -$2,029.89.

New total is $25,356. A bit more reasonable, I think.
