depending upon your skill level and ability many options can be installed yourself and you can price them on ebay (there are subaru dealers selling OEM parts on ebay directly). You can save a lot of money if you install the parts yourself where applicable -- or even bargain the dealer down because paying full MSRP for options is not normal for most people who have already bought their impreza's.

Your dealership and/or local autostart store would probably appreciate your business for the autostart and offer more flexible units for the price.

Search your local Craigslist or Chapter for crossbars/roof racks.

That's expensive if you're ordering it. it should at least be at invoice or below invoice. You should really email around and find the best price.

your car should only cost around ~$25k ish

Also, we keep our cars a LONG time and we noticed the driver's seat seems to be the weak point for showing decay in an aging car.

Walmart has an ok set for about $25. At least they will do until something better comes along. I think it was the ElPaso style by auto expressions. Pretty good style wise for the interior.

Insure that your side air bags will work with the seat covers. Many of the less expensive ones simply do not.

I got a cheapo $20 pair at Advance Discount Auto and they even have the airbag slots. Nice two tone with black with a gray insert. Seperate headrest covers. They're great for how much I paid for them. I'll probably just keep cheap seat covers on it and replace them as needed.

I kind of agree with the others on some parts that you can get a little cheaper.
I just got a dark grey Sport, and have been pricing some things.
I have the moonroof, but will use my phone for navi. Thule bike rack system around $300 new. Subaru has the all weather mats for $54, last I looked. The wheel locks, also from Subaru are $23 to $30.
That's all I've priced so far, Good Luck!

Not if he wants all of that list. Impreza's don't have that much markup.

There is a certain point at which getting a car with "everything" turns into a potentially bad decision. Trade in/resale value on a car with every available option isn't generally much higher than a base model of the same trim level. Plus if the car gets totaled, insurance doesn't pay out extra for the $5000 of options on the car. If someone gets GAP coverage to cover such an event, that just ends up tacking on another $500+ for the GAP coverage onto the cost of the car. Heck $27K also gets someone a fairly loaded Legacy or Outback as well, both of the those have cheaper insurance rates and the MPG gap isn't nearly as large as the EPA would like people to believe.

If you make a check list, the Subaru has things the A3 doesn't have, however the A3 is in an entirely different class of vehicle and has things the Impreza doesn't have. Hop in an A3 and drive one around, it feels like another world compared to the Impreza.

I have an Impreza, I think it has a lot of upside, but I would never consider dropping $27K on one. Especially considering it looks like he only got $600 of the MSRP of the car.

I had a hard time spending 21k on mine. The other cars I was looking at were about 1-2k less. But I feel like this is THE car for me.

I'm sure you could upgrade it to a stiffer and wider bar. I won't bother because I think the car handles fine as is, but then again I never really "tune" my cars, any time I spend upgrading is done on my motorcycle (though it is pretty much upgraded at this point as much as I want it to be).
What measures 12 or 14mm? The stock that comes on Premium & up? Or the upgraded one? What is it in comparison to the other?

invoice price is around $25.5k and if you do some shopping around you can get it for -$750 under invoice at some dealers if you order it.

i can't justify spending 27k before tax on an N/A impreza. might as well go wrx if you're at that price point

I'd love to know what dealer is selling them for $700 under invoice when most dealerships can't even keep any hatchbacks on the lot . . . every dealer in the San Diego Area has maximum 2-3 hatchbacks on the lot, several have one, or none.

The dealer we're ordering from has ordered 30 so far since the start of the year because they can't get any on the lot. I would think with no dealers being able to keep hatches in stock, there would be some mark-up, or at least that a mark-up might be coming.

We're getting our sport limited with options for invoice through the SOA VIP program, and I thought that was a pretty good deal.

Who here has gotten their car for $750 under invoice? I'm always up for saving money, so if you can tell me where I can save another $750 under invoice, speak up!

I built those specs on Subaru's site & for my area that was priced at $27,3xx MSRP including TTL. That number can't be right.

There's actually been a lot of people on here... probably back in December posts... getting their cars for invoice or under. Usually about $500 under, some close to $1000k under invoice with some pre-order incentives that were run in the fall by some dealers. Others that have Subaru VIP pricing. I had a credit union select membership at my dealer & got 1% above invoice & I was happy with that. It seemed like I paid more compared to what a lot got back then. There's a whole nother forum for pricing now.

Maybe things have changed since inventory hit lots but I think the hatchbacks are being scooped up because as you order, dealers pull from port inventory & add on accessories to match orders. If they're being ordered frequently now, the port inventory becomes allocated for an order instead of dealer inventory.

Been seeing a lot of commercials lately. Also saw my car's twin parked a few blocks from my house. I wonder if it's the same car that I got to check out at the dealership that was identical except transmission... first one to arrive in Buffalo & I sat in it while it was under lock and key prior to the cylinder swap. I gotta admit I'm gonna be sad when I see more around. I've loved the feeling that I have what no one else in town had. Even caught a few passers by taking pix of my car just a month ago. But happy for the rest of the peeps as their cars keep rolling in.

I remeasured with a better tool - the sway bar on my Sport is 18mm.

There is no 'upgrade', the stock bar for Premium, Sport and Limited is 18mm. If you want a thicker sway bar, you can put an STI or other non-2012 2.0 sway bar on the car.

New member here, I have been following this thread, very cool!
I bought a premium sedan with Opt 27 package (17" wheels, moonroof, steering wheel, winter package) and really dig the car, mostly.

What I love;
- Fun to drive. It is actually kind of zippy, can get on freeway with short onramps, good freeway passing acceleration, and handles excellently.
- Perfect size for me, all the gear I lug around and occasional family outing.
- Great visibility.
- Sounds stupid but the bluetooth works so well, its such a convenience.

What I don't love so much;
- Gas milage IMO is no where near where it should be. At least judging from the advertised. There is some value in waiting for a longer break-in period but not sold on winter gas thing. My 2011 Outback is getting better milage than this car... This can get sticky...
- I feel the CVT can be programmed better. It's tough to know how it's going to react all the time. sometime it gets stuck in lower revs and sometimes it jumps more than I expect. I guess what I am saying here is that I am very aware of the transmission in this car. the 2011 Outback's CVT is MUCH better performing IMO.
- Lag time between Drive and Reverse or vis-versa. This is just a minor nuisance but it is bothersome when trying to parallel park on a busy street, it's like EVERYBODY has to wait for your CVT to change gears.....

I just finished modifying the stereo, but maybe that's for another thread.

Thanks for he cool forum!

The Impreza has a better AWD system than the A3 since the A3 is based on the VW Golf platform and has a transverse engine, so it's really FWD. You can get "Quattro" as an option but it's not the same Quattro/AWD system in the other Audi models that have a longitudinal engine. Personally, I don't know why anyone would buy an A3 instead of a Golf, they're essentially the same car.
