I think he got a rental/loaner car? I could be confusing him with someone else.

As my suggestion, I would have pursued the lemon law route - especially if they are having him wait 2 months anyways. It might be quicker and less hassle for him. Once my lemon law paperwork was approved (about a week and a half), they could have cut me a check for the car immediately.

Default Room for 2 bikes in the trunk of the hatchback

Hi,
has anyone tried to fit 2 road bikes inside the Impreza Hatchback (with the rear seats folded of course) Is there room for both of them?

Thanks and hi to everyone since I'm new in the forum and I'm seriously considering an Impreza as the first car I'll ever buy with my own money

Default brake "sound" at warm up/cold engine period?

hi guys, decided i should check to see if i have a weird issue here or it's something normal for this car and an automatic transmission.

when my Impreza is cold (ie, coming out of the garage), it is, as is normal, revving at a higher engine speed. i note that when easing up on (releasing) the brake pedal, whether at reverse or in drive, there is a distinct "grumble sound." i've heard this before in other cars...it sort of sounds like there is water on the disks or something else. maybe a "squack" is a good descriptions of the sound? it's not a "weird sound" i haven't heard before, but i can't find the words to describe it.

anyway, this sound is only there the first few minutes of driving, after the car is warmed up and it's idling at a lower speed, it seems like it is gone. so i may be imagining it, but it seems related to the higher idle revs.

is this normal? i'm coming from the Honda world of manual transmissions and never had this in my Hondas. but i think i've had this (and ignored it) in rental cars i've driven, etc. so again, i'm just speculating that this is an automatic transmission thing.

anyway, want a reality check here to make sure everything is normal. and if not, will make an appointment with the dealer at some point. (although if i am correct in correlating this with the car being cold, it, like my annoying rattle, are going to be hard for the dealer to replicate because my car will be warmed up by the time it gets there!)

I fit two 56cm roadbikes in there with the front wheels still on. Takes a little careful maneuvering but its totally doabke. They have to lay to the side to fit. My 79 letour doesnt mind...

Good to know. In summer I have to carry either two sets of golf clubs or my Specialized Tricross and the fiance's Specialized (some sort of hybrid, not sure what). In the winter it's skis, longest being my 180s (98mm waist Rossi, a dream to ski in everything but a ton of powder or race course).

Mine makes the same sound. I think what your hearing is the cold brake pads releasing from the cold rotors. It wouldn't happen with a m/t because you usually don't have the engine/transmission trying to move the car at the same time you are applying the brakes.

Most of the cars that I've had made the same noise. I think it's pretty normal.

thanks. that was what i was hoping to hear. i hope others can chime in to, to add additional reassurance. but your explanation makes good sense.

You could haul the bikes and the golfclubs if you arrange it right. ^

Default Random: CR 0-60 time was 9.2s for the Impreza

my friend saved me the April Auto issue which i looked over last night. as most of you know, CR chose the Impreza as their small car top pick, just a smidge higher rating that the economical Hyundai Elantra. they clock the acceleration at a 9.2s 0-60 time.

for all of the reviews (C&D, etc) that have suggested the Impreza is slow and closer to 10s 0-60, it was interesting to see CR got a time that was quicker than i had read and is lower than i think what Subaru suggested (9.8)

of course, i know someone previously posted they could get a low to mid 8s time using the paddle shifters.

anyway, just a random comment. not that these timings matters in real life, at least for me. i'm still breaking in my car, but i haven't had any problems with having enough "oomph" to get to highway speeds quick enough, etc. then again, i haven't tried that with 4 adults and luggage (will be a rarity for me anyway). i guess it's all relative, anyway.

Never need them at the same time, so it isn't a big issue. And once I have a rack up there, won't be an issue at all (golf is with my dad, biking is with the fiance).

I always thought of the 0-60 as being a meaningful spec. Kind of gives you an idea of how much distance you need when pulling out in traffic or making a turn onto a 55mph road. Not that I could gauge it off the numbers alone, but a car with a quicker time should theoretically need less room to make a safe turn out.

Launches on dirt roads or in rain are certainly faster on an Impreza than the competitors cars

yeah...i think Road and Track had some interesting spec before that was maybe 45-65 mph which is a good indication of being able to pass other cars on a two lane road, i presume.

i think it also comes down to expectations and experiences.

a 0-60 time of under 10s is considered almost a "requirement" these days. yet, i remember my parents 1979 Audi 5000S which was considered a decent (but not fast) sports sedan in its day had a 0-60 time in the 11-12 s range. that's slower than a Prius these days...

my '84 Mazda RX-7 was in the 9s range and i think, in its time, it was considered moderately quick.

Have a 2012 Impreza premium hatch and after reading another forum, I just checked my tire pressure - unbelieveable- the dealer never reduced the pressure, they were all 45 lbs! Never knew the factory overinflates the tires (which makes sense). By the way, 3,500 miles on the Impreza and love it! Previously had a Forester, but handling and ride on the new Impreza are much better then my previous 2006 Forester. Even back seat passengers have more knee room.

Yeah, the factory inflates the tires high to avoid flat spots on the way over here. The dealership is supposed to check pressures as part of the Pre Delivery Inspection (PDI), however they often fail to do so because of laziness. I have owned 4 Subarus from 3 different dealerships, all of them had over inflated tires.

what confuses/suprises me is that mine were 36psi all around. so either they weren't quite at 45 psi at the factory, or the dealer's gauge is far off. (i tried three different gauges at home and they all came in at 36psi so at least in my random sampling, my gauges are pretty accurate or at least consistent.)

Did you all breathe in the JDM air when releasing the tire pressure?

Airbag system malfunction, they are replacing both front seats, driver's airbag, passenger airbag, and potentially the airbag controller. Car is not driveable. The tire is a secondary issue.

How long did you go without a loaner or rental, James?

Wow that is a shotgun approach to fixing the airbag system! Don't you have suspension issues as well?

Golf clubs are a tight fit width wise in the hatch.

Default Delivery time of 2012

Just thought I'd chime in on the longest thread ever

I ordered a 2012 Impreza Sport Limited on March 1st and got a call today saying it should be delivered on May 3rd, so approximately two months.

Thanks everyone for all the info so far on the 2012. I read a ton before ordering one, so I'll know what to expect.

UPDATE: Was delivered on April 28th.

Interesting to see people dropping off of this thread. I don't know what drives me back here!
