I got my Impreza just north of Boston, and it came in via Rhode Island. I got the impression that all of Subaru of New England cars come in to that port.

Default key hole TSB

hey : if any one of you guys go out there and get this addressed, can you report back to us on how it goes.

TSB 12-129-12R Steering Column Cover / Key Lock Cylinder (revised)

interestingly enough, i think this morning i figured out potentially the source of my intermittent rattle* from the steering column area. it seems there is some play between the shroud that goes to other side of the steering wheel and the main dash panel. i was able to move it around and get it to make my creak/ticking sound. my solution (tomorrow) when the car is cold enough, is to stick a piece of cardboard between the panels to see if that can quell the sound. if so, i may do my home solution of something similar but hidden.

i don't want to do anything to permanent, though since it's unclear to me how this whole steering wheel cover fits together (i only played around with this about 3 minutes before my train arrived) as that being properly centered might also help with my problem. all the piece seem loosely connected so that one thing i realize is that by stuffing card stock at one location can create a sound/creak at another location (i sort of was able to generate that response this morning in moving the sound from the left to the right side of my steering column even though there really doesn't appear to be any play on the right side (i wonder if this is like trying to balance a wobbly chair where i'll need to get it just right)

anyway, i digress. i just wanted to see if there is success for people in getting that key hold better aligned and whether their assembly is "stiffer" after this fix is implemented for them.

*it goes away if the car has been sitting in the car long enough presumably because the warm plastic expands and then there is not longer a gap or play which allows the sound/rattle to occur.

Default Rattling passenger head rest...

hey guys, i seem to recall someone else having this issue...

do any of you have a passenger headrest that rattles? i'm pretty sure that is the source of my second annoying rattle (first being the steering column one)...i tried to play with the height and tilt of the headrest but didn't have any luck in mitigating it. then again, it seems to come and go and depend on just how rough/bumpy the road is. it could be coming from somewhere else, but that's where i think my rattle is coming from...something at ear level on the passenger side and i do note there is a lot of play in that head rest in all directions (same is true for driver's side, but my head resting against it probably keeps it from rattling).

any suggestions on what i can do to eliminate this play (without destroying the functionality of an adjustable headrest)?

Default Oil level gauge TSB

(yes i have free time here so i'm looking at the tech website)...

anyone else see this:

Service Bulletin # 02-127-12
Pages: 2

Bulletin Description: The purpose of this bulletin is to inform you of a change made to the oil level gauge and guide. On a rare occasion, there is a possibility that the oil level gauge could get damaged if too much force is applied when installing or removing it. As a result, the diameter of the oil level gauge was increased along with the inside diameter of the oil level guide (dip stick tube).

i wonder if this is the issue a few people have been having where the dip stick read one thing and the sensor said that the oil level was low.

Interesting, maybe it'll be closer to the 1 week estimate then since its only going to NH. I need to get my a$$ in gear with insurance and loan stuff then!

i sort of doubt it though, since i think it's integrated with the HVAC system and other things and would make lots of things in our 2012 impreza controls/dash redundant.
That is correct, the Canadian HVAC does have different controls from the pictures I have seen.

I think you're going to have to wait a bit longer for the aftermarket to catch up.

Yup, get SOA involved. This is a documented issue they are aware of. The same issue I had with my first car.

FINALLY found an annoying rattle i was having. i thought it was in the dash, was driving me nuts, turns out it was the visor... right where the cloth wraps around the part that clips in... if that makes any sense. i pushed that part and the "rattling stopped" praise the lord!

Good to hear the rattle is gone! For me noises like that were rarely where I thougt they were. My Wrangler rattle pretty bad and I thought it was a dash vent so I pulled the vent out, put a little rtv around the edge and stuck it back in. I took it for a drive and the rattle was still there. I sold the Wrangler to buy a Titan and noticed right away that it rattled too, this time the noise was coming from the visor. I checked the retaining clamp, the mirror cover, the mount and they were all good.

It turns out that it was a loose button in my garage door opener that I had clipped on the Wrangler visor then the Titan visor...

Congrats! I'm jealous. I thought stuffing some card stock in a crack would get rid of a rattle but I was wrong. Back to the experimenting. ...

Same problem here, both front seats. It is incredibly annoying, plan on taking my car in next week. Granted, these aren't the only rattles I have but they are the most consistent. Holding the headrest in place fixes the problem, but alas it is a rather impractical solution

I was able to raise the headrests up a bit to get rid of the rattle. That in conjunction with the position of the seatback fixed the problem (originally the passenger seatback was vertical at like 90 degrees).

thanks for sharing: please report back on what you get out of the dealer. i don't know if there is a simple solution. i have trying to come up with some creative solution myself that is a bit better than removing the headrest until i have a passenger

hopefully, the dealer can do something and if so, i can have my dealer do something similar or duplicate the effort myself if it's a simple fix/solution.

ah...i knew i wasn't imagining reading that someone had posted on this. i think it was you i haven't figured mine out yet using your method...

raising the headrest up (it seems to only have 3 settings total) doesn't seem to help my problem. i haven't tried all angles of tilts yet, but the few i've tried don't seem to help either. there is just a lot of play in these headrests. i don't think my driver side is an issue both because my head is resting on it when i'm driving and also it seems to have a little less play than the passenger seat one.

My head rests have little to no wiggle room & no rattles. I have mine down all the way, tilted forward with no issues. My seat is reclined, but for comfort more so than rattle issues. How are your back head rests? Do they fit the same way?

this is good information: both of my front head rests have a fair bit of play. i haven't heard any rattle from the driver's one so i'm guessing that the "play" has reached the critical point on the passenger one, or my head is responsible for keeping the driver's one from rattling. (my driver's headrest is at the lowest setting (all the way down) and with no tilt)

so you tilt your headrest forward? how far? quite honestly (and no offense is intended towards anyone who likes it with an extreme tilt!) i thought the tilting headrest was a peculiar "feature" that i've never had in any car before. are you really tall such that the head rest nests into your neck? or do you just like having your head forced slightly forward?

i haven't played with my rear ones at all. that's a good thing to check out. i'll check this weekend.

it seems like this should be a simple problem to fix, but i haven't come up with a simple solution to remove the play in the headrest (i'm guessing it's more the posts that allow vertical adjustment than the tilt feature, but i could be wrong)

I have it two clicks forward but my seat is reclined quite a bit. It actually sits about a half inch behind my head. I can "rest" my head if I want but out of habit I don't. It was intended & noted as a safety feature to prevent whiplash in some article I read about being number one safety pick in its class.

interesting. i'll try two clicks and see what it does for the passenger seat as well as experiment with it for my driver seat.
