my wife's prius does a lot of such sounds after it's shut off, but i chalk that up to it being a hybrid.

I do believe that is the emissions evap system. Also your car do be doing that stuff hours after you turn off the car as well, you just don't notice

Upgrading the speakers is definitely the way to go, but will most likely require customization. Nothing seems to fit perfectly besides the specially-made Kickers.
I was wondering the same thing. I know that you can order the under-seat sub from the '08-'11 models online, would that be able to be installed in a '12?

It's like your first scuff on you brand new bright white kicks. Windshield repaired - didn't hold up & replacement to follow (from a rock kicked up by a Jeep in front of me). The dent is not even visible to anyone. The scratch on the other hand needs a touch up. It's on the underspolier area. Should I attempt the retouch myself?
Dents that do not involve paint chips or cracks can usually be fixed using dent wizard. I would get some DGM touchup paint from the dealer and try to fix it yourself. You'll be hard pressed to find a body shop that can fix it without repainting the bumper cover (which you don't want to do unless you NEED to).

totally laughing aloud on that one...

totally off topic, but this weekend while showing my friend my car: i found a bunch of what appeared to be crumbs in the back seat. i'm sure there is some explanation but nobody has sat back there in weeks! (likely my messenger back pick up some stuff it was resting on and then it got deposited on the seat)

thanks for the thoughts on the emissions system, too!

The dent is livable. While my door was open the wind ripped it wide open into a truck next to me. Literally the very edge of my door met with the very edge of theirs. So it wouldn't even be worth it. Bout a one inch "discrepancy" along the door edge that no one else will ever notice.

Not the emissions pump that ocellaris is talking about. I was able to record it in this video:

STeye: do you know what i was referring to? maybe a 1-2 second whirring sort of sound (sorry i can't describe it better) after turning the car off?

i think so.

it doesn't last that long for me to investigate...but i think it's not just engine related.

for eg, this morning, i shut down the car and continue to listen to the radio, but when i turn it completely off to remove the key, i hear the sound. not super loud, but definitely audible...again reminds me of my wife's prius (if you've heard its engine spin up after being in electric mode and/or it does this sort of sound for about 5 seconds after the car is shut off)

The noise I hear is something electronic sounding. I always thought it had to do with the drive by wire system. I hear the same thing on my STI and my wife's late model CR-V - all of which have DBW.

also, when you turn off the car?

my 2000 Civic didn't have DBW, but i am assuming my wife's prius has DBW since it is an '07.

RTFM! Your owners manual clearly states that the Impreza will make noises after shutdown; sometimes hours after turning the car off. Its normal.

partially guilty here. i do recall reading it and yes, i've heard other cars make sounds after they are turned off including sitting in the garage (and that includes cars in the 80s and 90s).

but i was in particular interested in this regular sound i hear going from from accessory to off position on the ignition. i dont recall reading anything that specific in the manual, but confess that i only skimmed the manual and didn't read it with a fine toothed comb.

Is it a fixed frequency tone that sometimes breaks up? It seems to be coming from the throttle body. My guess is it's some kind of PWM drive on the throttle actuator.

i would say it's a constant frequency...not sure what you mean by "break up"...i can't say i'm overly worried about it, but it is noticeable and every now and then i sort of wonder what it is...

i'll try pay more careful attention tonight and tomorrow morning to see if i can get more specific.

if you want to put them under the gun a bit and they just want to turn off the light, tell the service manager you want a note saying that the entire airbag system is working at 100% capability even if that light comes back on (because it will). They won't want to do that for liability reasons and should help you get new parts.
Nice idea. I'm about to call the dealership about bringing my car in. I'll post any interesting followup later.

Again, this is a known issue and you should get SOA involved if the dealership is simply resetting the code. It will NOT fix the problem

Also, like Ocellaris said, tell them you don't feel safe driving the car. If you have a passenger in the seat and the light comes on, I believe they will not be protected by the airbag in the event of an accident. At least that is what the "Passenger airbag OFF" light would make you believe.
Yeah I can reliably make the light come on by putting anyone in the passenger seat and then going for a 10 minute drive, if it doesn't come on by that point I can have them take their seat belt off, put it back on, light comes on, passenger airbag shows as off, passenger seat belt alarm won't go off either. Thanks for the info on what ended up happening with your car.

For some reason I hear a constant high frequency whine on my Victory and in my Titan every time I try to slow down aggressive drivers on the highway. I'm hoping I don't have the same problem with the Impreza but I may since it only happens when my wife is with me and isn't asleep in/on the passenger seat.

If this is a documented issue is there a specific thread for it? Should there be?
So far that I know of 2 cars have been bought back because they don't know how to fix it.However I dropped my car off today for the third time and I got a voice mail today on my phone saying they called Subaru ,and an engineer suggested they special order some part in the base of the seat?.Once I actually find out what they ordered I can put up a part number and let you guys know what all they did to correct this ,if they can.If I were you I would get in contact with Subaru of America and have them open a case up like I did ,because the dealer was only resetting the light.Thankfully my dealer is 5 miles away but that doesn't fix the problem.I spoke with Robert Hollinger (spelling on his last name?) from Subaru of America he was super helpful always returned my calls .I would raise hell at the dealership and make sure you get a loaner.I got the same Forester as I did last time they had my car and I cant stand it.Like everyone else said don't take the car back if they are resetting it , I told both the dealership and SOA I was not taking the car back until its fixed!

Just don't try to race me in your truck , you'll soon figure out that 100hp motorcycles are the equivalent of big block muscle cars (in fact the ZRX has been compared to the muscle cars of yesteryear)

In my case I actually added a tooth to the rear sprocket to make it rev lower so my MPG on the bike is about 45-50mpg and it cruises great on the highway at 3,000rpm (the redline is 10,500rpm).

It will still lift the front wheel if I hammer it, but it is not a wheelie machine by any stretch of the imagination. Most hooligans regear it in the opposite direction to make wheelie monsters out of their ZRX.
I ride a 2006 Suzuki SV1000s that I bought brand new in 07. It now has 19,000 miles on it with a few things done to it. It's putting down about 125hp to the wheel with 75ft/lb of torque. A v-twin sport bike is the best of both worlds. I regeared with aluminum rear sprocket down one on the front and up two on the rear, which is lower both ways. Yoshimura full 2into1 system with a K&N filter. Lots of non power related upgrades, it's what I get on when the weekend rolls around or on Thursday night track night throughout the week.

I don't think there has been any consensus except often they are delivered to owners veer pressured. The specs say 32/30 f/r.

I've been running mine 1 psi over that and in past have gone as much as 3 psi higher than spec to boost mileage a bit. But higher pressure means harsher ride.
