The mounting holes are about 3 inches apart. The tweeters mount with screws. I suggest a stubby (short) Philips screwdriver for this. You can reuse the screws that came with the stock tweeters, or use the ones that come with the Kicker tweeters.

Thanks. The reason I ask is I'm wondering if one of these might be a good alternative. I'm sure there's a high-pass somewhere, so I wanted to see if it was on the speaker side or the head unit side.

I can't say for sure, I didn't give it a good look, but I'd be very surprised if it wasn't built into the tweeter to protect it. That's pretty common.The filter would just be a fairly small and cheap capacitor, so it would be crazy not to include it.

To access the screws, you pry off the cover. Pry it off the front edge (closest to you). I just used a short, flat-edge screw driver with a thin blade. Insert the blade about 1 inch over from the rounded edge, push forward a bit and lift up about a quarter inch. Hold the corner up in place, then do the same on the other edge (insert screwdriver about an inch from the edge, push forward and lift up. Once the front edge is free, you can lift up the cover, pivoting off the back edge.

As for the high-pass filter, it must have one or the bass frequencies would blow it out. I don't know the crossover point, but based on the sound, I'd say 2K or 3K.

this is awesome info! thanks for sharing the detailed directions and experience. i need to get off my butt and order these! i was fretting over needing to get some prying tools, but it sounds like i probably have something (maybe even an exacto blade would work) around the house to remove those covers safely.

bummer: seems subarupartsmall is now out of the tweeter upgrade. i know it was there the other day but not it's gone. hopefully they'll have it back in stock. tomwi's post inspired me to order it but alas: it's not meant to be...at least today...

Glad to help. I'll probably break down at some point and get the door speakers, but it's a lot more work than the tweeters.
I'd be looking mainly for better bass with the kicker door speakers. I'm sure they have bigger magnets and better low end than the stock speakers. Perhaps not as good a low end as the subwoofer, but probably close, given the extra surface area of four speakers to physically move the air vs. a single subwoofer. The low octave on a four-string bass guitar is from 42hz to 84hz. The stock door speakers probably don't play this octave well, if at all, hence the muddiness when you increase the bass - you're increasing the higher octaves.

ah! i don't know how i messed that up, but i went to a different site today. duh!

thank you so much! i ordered it with the discount code and it came to $96 and change. that's about $13 cheaper after shipping, etc. than the other places i found on the web.

Guys installing speakers, you must know which clips fit the trim panels; or anybody else. I am planning on taking some trim panels off to chase squeaks, and would like to have a few clips on hand in case I break any. So, which are the right clips? Thanks.

How long has your car been at the dealership this past time? You said your car was in 2 times previously as well? If you're nearing the 30 days, I would talk to SOA (a senior rep, there are at least 2 tiers of reps) and tell them you're going to be sending a certified letter as per the statutes.

The first time they had my car I got it back the same day, they reset the light and did the oil change.Second time they had it for 1 day and claimed a plastic zip lock baggie and 2 water bottles under the seat were to blame .Third time they have had it since 5-7-12 Do you suggest calling SOA or just wait a little while longer?

I thank you too. I just ordered it, but I'll have to get Subaru to do the installation when I figure out how/where to get the door speakers and woofer upgrades. I'll search back about the door speakers and call my dealer.

so I am driving through the subaru dealer tonight after hours to check out the OBP/DGM they have on the lot and in rolls a car hauler with what looked like MY DGM Sport onboard! if it is i won't be able to get it until next thursday or saturday though

It's been 11 days, I don't think it could hurt to contact SOA to document your situation. When you talk to them on the phone, I would ask to speak to a senior representative. Tell them what's going on.

Do the aftermarket speakers weigh the same as the OEM speakers? I'd like to put some better speakers in but I don't want to affect the MPG's or have to leave my washer fluid home.

BTW I'm curious how extra coolant is more important to you than visibility. For most people unless they own a POS that overheats a lot, do a lot of desert driving or drive a rock crawler they are going to go through substantially more wiper fluid per year than coolant. I bet in the last 10 years I've used less than a gallon of coolant and 50 gallons of wiper fluid an for several years I did drive a rock crawler.

got my car today!!!

2 questions.
1. the shifter on my 5sp vibrates, I assume normal due to solid metal linkages unlike my Jetta that uses cables so there is no vibration.
2. the seats, not sure I like the lumbar support. The jetta is ok because I can turn it down, my buick really has none and that is really what I am used to, so maybe it will just be an adjustment.

btw, averaged 35.7mpg according to the trip computer on the way home, average speed 60mph, but varied from 40-70, PZEV version

oh, and I actually like the stereo, I did order it with the kicker tweeters, so at this point I am tempted to just add a basslink for depth and and leave everything else alone.

the audio controls on my type "B" radio were not locked out while in motion

Congrats man! Hope you're enjoying the car. About your 1st question, I already posted a thread asking about the shifter vibration. Everyone who responded said it's perfectly normal.

I thought about the kicker tweeters, but went for a set of Polk DB6501 components instead. For a little more cash I can upgrade the dash "tweeters" and those sorry looking woofers in the doors. I've had the 6501s in another car and they sounded fantastic.

that's what I figured, the only thing stopping vibration is the bushings. just figured i would check

i'm still debating going to the polk 651 non S for the doors, haven't decided yet, not sure how they would sound off the stop HU. pretty cheap to do so though. like i said, the stereo doesn't actually sound horrible to me (i only listened to bluetooth on the drive home), which I am suprised by because the 2 cars i test drove only had the factory "tweeters" and i didn't think they sounded very good, and i am a bit of an audiophile.

oh ya, kinda annoyed, but oh well. The dealer didn't understand my request for Popular Package 1, so I didn't get it the price he told me was "correct" for what I was expecting, but when I got there today, none of that stuff was there. The price was "correct" because I was forced to get PZEV due to production change.

so I ordered the autodimming mirror, and cargo tray (he gave me rubber mats for free) and I will try to get them in this week

They are Toyota/Lexus clips, shaped like tiny butt plugs!
