Opinions here seem mostly positive, that's good. I have a 2005 Legacy GT Limited sedan (SWP, 5MT) which I like, I got it in 2008 after selling my 2000 2.5RS. The LGT is paid off, but I really like the '12 Impreza. I haven't had a hatchback since before the RS, but I still miss it. I get jealous of my wife's wagon. ('01 Outback H-6)

Tossing around the idea of getting the new Impreza. Opinions seem very split on the CVT, guess I'd have to drive it. I've always had manuals, though I do admit that, around town, an auto has its benefits. I'd lament the 100hp+ drop in power (yikes), but the gain in utility, low mileage again, and fuel economy are all good.

Decisions....! Plus my wife's been looking at the new Outback 3.6R for a while now, we hesitate only because of house projects, and again the fact that it's paid off (and has been for 3+ years, we bought hers in 2005).

I haven't heard the Kicker tweeters, but they seem to be well liked.

The 6501's tweeter is excellent, but the wiring and mounting are more difficult. It comes with surface and flush mounts. I'm going to cut the grille panels for flush mounting. The set is efficient so it does well from head unit power.
good to know. i will keep them in mind.

I installed a pair of Kicker Components in my last car, hmm, 9 years ago now I think. wasn't too bad of an install, but with the tweeter location elsewhere on this car I really don't want to mess with it. I have to pay off the taxes on my car first before I buy anything else for it. (they went on CC, everything was cash/loan)

Which model impreza do you have? For the limited trim without nav, there are ways to shut off the loudness circuit and default EQ
i have a Sport Premium, so a tybe "b" radio per the manual. i don't think there is a way to turn off loudness/eq on that model.

auskip07,

get your short shift linkage installed yet? I can deal with the pedals, they aren't as bad as I remember from the test drive, but I don't like the shifter, i am really slow in traffic, and I need to do something about it.

when you do, can you post pics of what is involved to install?

bummer. at least on the limited non-nav, this is a big cure for the boominess.

i've gone back and forth, but i think i've decided that i like the loudness off and i somewhat compensated for the thin bass with a bass +3 setting. it seems to give some impact that remains tight.

i should be getting the kicker tweeters in the next week, so hopefully that will bring the stereo to an "acceptable level" for me.

Will be delivered the 29th There was a mistake on my paypal and wouldnt ship it to a non confirmed address they waited a week to tell me . Ill post as many pics and measure the before and after shift for you also. I think the hardest part will be getting the center console off. Also ordered a metal shift knob but if it gets too hot i may buy a cobb Derlin knob

Also i have all my speakers tweetered and although it isnt a component system i dont notice a lack in bass with the tweeter protruding through the speaker. I couldnt justify replacing the tweeters with a set of kickers for $100 when i can buy all 4 speakers (high quality ones w/tweeters) for $100. Dollar for dollar it didnt make sense when the door speakers needed to be replaced anyway.

I got a delivery date of June 18th last week. I hope it comes in before that. That means it is at port with a VIN correct? It's no option sport premium so it should be here soon hopefully.

He said almost all the others he had coming were scheduled for June 23rd(ish). So I would put my money on that for you.

Picked up my MBP manual sport premium on Wednesday. I've only driven it back & forth from work (5 miles each way), but I love it so far. Installed seat covers last night to protect the seats from my dog and 4 y/o son. Got the kicker tweeters ordered, should be here Saturday, so I'll have those and the yellow fog overlays to install this weekend. I'm really tempted to upgrade the door speakers too since they have really awful bass response. Also gotta find time to take it to get tinted.

Will have to replace the whole bumper to fix it. Sadly my deductable is not $250, and I'm thinking this will be around 5-600 to fix so dont think I'm going to claim it. Talked to me dealer and I can get a primered bumper for $250, would then just have to get it painted and could probably put it on myself.

Soooooooooo mad! The lady did not swerve or brake at all, just drove right over the freaking thing. I had zero time to react before I was over it too. Still not sure what I'm going to do. I definitely want to fix it, but with my luck after I do something else will nail my bumper, so debating when I should do it.

My first new car and the first time I've ever gotten somewhat major damage on the highway. Arrrrrrgh!
Well did some research. $250 for a primered only bumper from subaru. $600 for the bumper, painted, installed from a local body shop. Wondering when the best time to go ahead and replace it would be. Now during summer, or fall. I do a LOT of highway driving weekly so I'm thinking I'd be better off waiting a few months until the bugs die down and do it before winter rolls back around. Sucks driving something new with visible damage, she feels tainted

Are they painting just the bumper, or are they fading it into the rest of the car? Paint will vary just a bit between the car and the bumper, so most places will do a fade into the rest of the car to make it match. Just my two cents.

I just turned 5,000 miles on my Impreza and the other day ,when I got out of work ,I started the car. Just for a second or two, you can hear the lifters before the oil completely circulated. It was not loud but you can hear it. I listen this morning when I started the car in the garage and don't believe I heard it. For some crazy reason I've only heard it when I start the car after work and it has been sitting for 8 hours in the parking lot. The car is parked on level ground, and I had the oil changed at 3750 miles. I also checked the oil level and its perfect.

Does this engine have solid lifters and is this a normal occurence?

By the way- LOVE the car!

I would imagine Hydraulic. Since most modern cars have those. Solid would require adjusting at specific mileage interverals. verify you have the correct oil filter also.

Replace it now because it looks like crap, and you can get into some issues on the off chance that you have a second accident before repairing the original accident.

Not sure about the fade or not. This shop did work on a rear panel of my old car it the paint flowed well. That car was 10 yrs old. The paint on this one is still "new" so you think much blending would still be needed?

Shop around online I replaced the bumper on my mustang for about $400 painted and shipped. Can't remember the site tho

I did a little bit. Didn't have any luck, thinking the model is still too new.

RXman,
You're probably not hearing lifters since they are so low in the car. The noise you're hearing is most likely your fuel injectors firing.

RoyB / SRZ,
Good luck on the car, I hope it arrives as scheduled. I gave up on my order a couple of weeks ago because my dealer found a similar car in the region. I ended up getting a car with 91 miles on it (mostly from driving from the other dealership) but it was worth the gamble because I doubted I as going to get the car on 22 May when I didn't get a VIN until 04 May.

Turns out the gamble worked out because I ended up getting a Sport Limited with a VERY small increase in price and it's 25 May now and my ordered car is still MIA.

Ouch. That sucks big time, but at least you didn't break anything else. Definitely get a bunch of quotes. Make sure you are getting an OEM bumper, however I don't think the aftermarket makes them yet. Good luck!

I can confirm that there is a capacitor soldered onto the tweeter connections. The value is 3.3 uf. The stock tweeter is 6 ohms. According to this link, that would give it a crossover value of about 8K.

then actually i think i would be ok with polk 651's for the doors. unless they are set to a similar setup. i have time to decide.
