i've heard the same thing about Amsoil 0w-20, it falls somewhere inbetween 20 and 30 viscosity. (not an amsoil fanboy, this is the first time i have ever tried it and i just put in my impreza and our jetta)

Where did you hear that?

here is a comparison of like vs like stats Amsoil Signature Series and Mobil 1 (both 0w-20):

TYPICAL TECHNICAL PROPERTIES
Signature Series 100% Synthetic 0W-20 Motor Oil (ASM)
Kinematic Viscosity @ 100C, cSt (ASTM D-445) 8.7
Kinematic Viscosity @ 40C, cSt (ASTM D-445) 47.3
Viscosity Index (ASTM D-2270) 166
Flash Point C (F) (ASTM D-92) 226 (439)
High Temperature/High Shear Viscosity
@ 150C, 1.0 X 106 s.-1), cP (ASTM D-5481) 2.8
Total Base Number (ASTM D-2896) 12.6

TYPICAL TECHNICAL PROPERTIES
Mobil 1 0W-20
Kinematic Viscosity @ 100C, cSt (ASTM D-445) 8.7
Kinematic Viscosity @ 40C, cSt (ASTM D-445) 44.8
Viscosity Index (ASTM D-2270) 173
Flash Point C (F) (ASTM D-92) 224
High Temperature/High Shear Viscosity
@ 150C, 1.0 X 106 s.-1), cP (ASTM D-5481) 2.7
Total Base Number (ASTM D-2896) 8.8

The biggest difference is the total base number, which makes sense as the Amsoil is an extended change oil:

I dont see why it cost so much. when you get to the upper limits its not going to protect you that much more.

Whether the additives are superior or not could only be resolved by used oil testing.

Amsoil is expensive if you change it using the manufacturer schedule.

If you do an annual oil change, it is less expensive than using another oil following the manufacturer change interval (in other words, one change with amsoil is cheaper than 2-3 changes using another synthetic oil).

It is probably also much cheaper than letting your dealer do your synthetic oil changes for you.

Thanks for sharing this. My car wash is one of the Delta Sonics in the Rochester area. I have the wash-all-you-want membership, which is great for keeping it clean when the weather gets sloppy, or there's a lot of pollen in the air, or a bird splatters the car, or whatever. I often go through the wash 2 or 3x/week, and I'd prefer to not remove the antenna every time.

After looking a little more at this numbers it appears amsoil's 0 is higher than a 0, but it isn't a huge difference.

Default 2013 Impreza - First Details

Surprised no one else has posted this (unless I missed it), but in the last day or two, Cars101.com has posted the first tidbits of the 2013 Impreza changes.

This appears to be color and package-level changes only listed. Nothing about functional changes, accessories, individual options, or prices.

I was hoping for a rear camera on the non-nav Limited (since the head unit already supports it), but maybe it'll be added as an accessory. Here's hoping...

2013 Impreza-
  • Bluetooth and USB on base models.
  • Navigation includes rear view camera.
  • 2.0i Premium 4/5 door with the manual transmission now includes the all weather package.
  • 2.0i Premium 4/5 door with CVT can get either Option Pkg #27 all weather package, 17" alloy wheels, moonroof, or Option Pkg #28 all weather package, 17" alloy wheels, navigation/back-up camera, but there is no longer an option package that includes the all weather package, 17" alloy wheels, moonroof and navigation/back-up camera.
  • Discontinued colors: sky blue, sage green, camellia red, obsidian black, and the Sport model 2tone combinations.
  • New colors: Crystal black (ivory interior) and Venetian Red (black interior).
  • Marine blue now with ivory interior (was black); the deep cherry pearl (ivory) is now available on Sport models.

I was thinking the same thing about my Obsidian Black/Dark Gray Metallic two-tone. I mainly wanted that two-tone choice over the all Obsidian Black choice because I wanted a black interior, which isn't available on the all black car.

This decision will make our cars a "collector's item"?

Honestly, I'm really miffed that they did away with the two-tone colors schemes. That sage green was beautiful to look at in direct sunlight. :/

No more two-tones? That's kinda lame. It's nice to keep SOME traditions around, ya know? So for 2013 Subaru enthusiasts have to deal with a RWD sports car (I don't mind, but others definitely do) and no two-tone Sport Imprezas (kinda tragic).

Back-up camera IS available with NAV, though, so that's nice.

Bluetooth and USB on Base models is a huge plus. After the loaner Base Impreza I had, I told myself that I could pretty much live with it if only it had Bluetooth and USB included! I know, I know, an aftermarket deck would solve that, but I just know that I enjoy it's inclusion in my current WRX. I'm also addicted to the moonroof, though, so I'm thinking a Premium would still be my minimum.

Do you think Subaru did away with the two-tone colors for cost reasons? I assume it's more expensive to lay down two colors, although that's a look I've seen on Impreza's for years, so they obviously know what's involved in providing that choice.

It's interesting to note that when configuring a Ford Focus, certain colors carry a price premium (I know this because the Impreza and Focus where my two finalists). The funky metallic yellow color choice was almost $500 extra, as I recall.

I remember being pleasantly surprised to discover that a two-tone Impreza didn't carry a price premium.

Recently picked up my wife's 2012 Impreza Sport Limited. Wanted to post a couple of pictures since I haven't had the chance to yet. I had the windows tinted and a clearbra added last week.

Picked up:

Before Tint:

After Tint:

And a couple more:

And one of what's under the cover:

Hey Monkey, how is your gas mileage doing? Mine is sub-par IMO. I drive country roads with some stop lights, not many. My average since I bought the car (~4k miles) is 26.4.

I deffintely get what your talking about. I feel the same way, I only got the car because it was the only way I could get the benefits of a subaru while still being realistic. I always wonder if I should have just went for a wrx and be broke but atleast happy hahahaha.

It's VA State legal:
50% on the front windows
35% on the back windows
20% in the hatch since you can't roll them down and its a subtle grade so most of the time you would not get harassed for it.

Yeah hmmmm.. I might do that too, but I do think it is unbalanced so my suggestion is to take off the top larger subaru and impreza badges and leave the bottom - that looks right to me.

I'm already planning on tinting the rear at 35% Which is all that's legal in my state
The car looks great in white. Mine is DGM and I love it! Going for a suburban Batmobile look I guess.

If you got a WRX, you would not be happy with the gas mileage and the fact you need to put in Premium gas!
