I picked up a 2012 sport limited dark gray, love the car so far no issues.

Just wanted to report I've rolled 5000 miles with no issues. Getting 28-30 mpg with the 5 speed hatch, the gauge is a little more optimistic at 30-32 mpg.

Just pick up a 2.0i 5-door, 5-speed. Love so much about this car. If I had one critique, it would be that subaru needs to make the throttle response on this car a bit more linear. Other than that 10's all around.

Anyone know how to fix/repair the sliding center console cover (leather/pleather/vinyl)?

Making this story short. Dogs are unforgivable to your Subaru.

My friend brought his dog over this weekend. Since I have no parking on my streets I offered to drive. BIGGEST Mistake!

The dog shed all over the car. Also, he ran everywhere inside the car leaving scratches on the door panel. My biggest gripe his nails dug into the center console material and left some indents.

Would anyone know what material that is made out of and also lead me to the right direction on how to repair such a thing?

Anyone check the inventories for their local dealerships? 2013 Impreza's are being stocked! I called and they said that the 2013's should be coming in late September.

I was going to pick up a 2012 Ice Silver on 9/8, but I might just wait a couple more weeks for a 2013 SWP. Decisions...

If the pricing is similar, I would go for the 2013. Simply from the depreciation perspective it makes sense.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. The 2012 is around $500 more and comes with the aero splash guards and upgraded speakers, but I can live without those. Only thing I don't like that much is the tan interior on the 2013 SWP.

If it's any consolation, the black interior really shows the lint. I got black (cloth) because I wanted less cleaning but now I cover the seat with a black towel because that's easier than picking miscellaneous lint off the upholstery.

^ This.

When I bought a Jetta (before my Impreza), I picked out a 2009 model to save a few $$$ over a nearly identical 2010 model that was just hitting the lots. I planned to drive the Jetta for a long time, so it didn't matter, right?!?

Then I traded in the Jetta in December of 2011 to get the Impreza... If my Jetta was a 2010 model, I would have be offered almost $2K more for the trade in

And why did you end up dumping the Jetta so much sooner than you originally predicted?

I'm guessing that I know where this is going too. But I try not to make assumptions.

Maybe he bought a sedan and then decided he needed a wagon because of the improved cargo-carrying flexibility.

Or maybe he bought the Jetta and then moved to the snowbelt and wanted AWD.

Or maybe not.

Maybe it's because I've never ever heard anyone telling me how much they love their Jetta? Maybe they're better now, but I've always found them uninspiring... IMO

My bet is that "uninspiring" isn't the reason that Ocellaris got rid of his Jetta before its time. But I'll wait for him to confirm for himself.

I had the Jetta for about 4 months, then this happened when I was 600 miles away from home in DC
:

Now I live in Maine, and we get a lot of snow, but during this incident it took me about 45 minutes to dig the car out, then another 90 minutes just to drive/dig my way across the parking lot to a cleared spot. Then I was stuck in a hotel for over 24 hours because the roads were not cleared and I could not get the Car from the parking lot over to the main roads. I've also had a 90s Legacy and a 04 Outback before the Jetta, I wanted AWD again so bad...

Aside from that, the Jetta would randomly burn oil (I burned 1.5 quarts in 700 miles once), but other times I could go 3K miles without the oil moving on the stick. Also it would sometimes decide to not start, which unfortunately carried over to the Impreza (see the 2012 "cranking problem" posts).

The Jetta drove better than the Impreza. I had a 2009 MKV which had the independent rear suspension and some other stuff not found on the lower priced MKVI Jettas now. It stopped better, had better steering, and a lot more power. People always crap on the VW 5 cylinder 2.5L engine, however I was getting almost the same MPG from that car (rated 21/30 MPG) than I get with my Impreza (rated 27/36). Also the Jetta stereo in the base model was wwwaaayyy better than the Impreza stereo. Important stuff for long drives!

I think VW gets a bad rep after their quality problems in the early 2Ks. The previous model Jetta (06 to 2011) was a fantastic car, especially for the price it was sold at. $17.5K got someone a car with decent power, a great stereo, power everything (including seats), auto up/down at every window switch, LIT switches (something you only notice when its gone...), all weather package, interior ambient lighting, traction control/stability control (which was sold as an option on most cars for those years), great steering system (with amazing crosswind correction), great ergonomics (lumbar adjustment standard, height adjustable armrest)... Then VW proceeded to make a worse car with the MKVI, start at a lower MSRP with a stripped model, charge way more for options, and their sales more than doubled. Blows my mind.

My 2012 Impreza Sport just turned 8,000 miles the other day. I am noticing that the car has developed a strange squeaking, creaking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle when I stop. As the vehicle comes to a stop, it is quite noisy. The vehicle itself doesn't feel any different, but I am not sure what is going on. I am wondering if it is suspension or shock related. Gonna bring it in soon to get it checked out.

Anyone else experience this? Don't get me started on the squeak coming from the seat. Grrrrrr

Since you're bringing the car in for the rear-end squeak, have the dealership take care of the seat too.

Please let us know what they find with the rear-end squeak.

My Jetta(s) had comfortable seats and didn't burn oil. But keeping the pos power windows working was like peeing into the wind...

The MK6 Jetta was de-contented, but the MK6 Golf (mine was a TDI) and Jetta Sportwagen still have all the nice features you describe above. It's unknown whether the MK7 Golf/JSW will be de-contented too.

While I agree that my TDI was super nice to drive, its reliability was a joke. Much of my reliability grief was associated with the diesel-specific technologies the car contained. However, the dealership and VWoA did not handle my case well at all, and that would be true regardless of whether your VW (or Audi) was a diesel or RUG car.

The test drive sold me on my TDI. But the dealership and VWoA wouldn't do what was required to keep me in that rolling time bomb. Only kept it for 27 months (three weeks of which were in the shop) and 30k miles. I had originally hoped to keep it for 150k+ miles.

So has anyone figured out a work around for this yet? I will be (hopefully) taking delivery of my 2012 Impreza Limited this Saturday and would like to know how I can get the remote start to work like it SHOULD work.

I can't for the life of me understand why they would design it to shut off when opening a door....it totally defeats the purpose!

the purpose is to start the car with out you in it. Not to keep the car running if someone tries to jump in and steal it. Get it?

if you really want to work around it. figure out a way to open the door without the computer sensing a voltage drain

Yeah no kidding, so isn't that then the point of the feature when you press the brake it shuts off??? Why would I want to start it, to have it shut off when I open the door, then start it again?!?!

You shouldnt be able to press the brakes if your not in the car when it starts. It reads a open door as a voltage drain the same as it reads the brake lights as one. It cant tell the difference.

The point is to have a vehicle up to a comfortable temp when you get inside. Turning off is a safety feature.
