Yeah it kinda feels like neoprene, but soaks up water like a chamois (but better).

Just picked one up. I might end up buying the Meguiar's Water Magnet Drying Towel as well just to see the difference.

Has anyone installed the 2012 impreza hood deflector? I'm wondering if it's turned up at the top edge, like a bug deflector, or just a plastic cover for the front of the hood.

Yizzir. Not turned up, just like an elevated cover.

They want you to buy a new one every 6 months. How can they keep making money if it lasts forever?? C'mon, suck it up and stimulate their economy.

You're doing it wrong. You're supposed to use a new one every time you wash your car.

Sorry to be completely off the topic, but this is my first post (long-time lurker).

I've had my 2012 Sport Limited for about 6 months and just noticed that the steering wheel plastic surrounding the key ignition is very off-centered. Do other people's look like this?

Thanks and hopefully this doesn't get buried in the massive thread.

Yes this is a known issue. If it bothers you, go to the dealer and tell them to fix it. There is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) on this exact problem, along with a fix.

Edit:Thanks for the quick response. And I found the TSB at subaru's site. 12-129-12R.

It obviously doesn't really bother me (took 6months to notice is), but it's good to know the dealer can straighten it up. Do I need to reference any TSB, or should they just fix it? (Small town middle of no where, so the sales volume is probably me and one other guy).

After you had mentioned it, I do notice mine to be off centered too, I guess I'll leave mine as is. Don't want to spend half a day at my dealership waiting for them to fix this.

Default Fog Light Installation Question

I am looking to purchase the OEM fog lights to install in my 2012 impreza wagon which didnt come with the fog lights.

My question is, I am not buying the kit from the dealer or site which costs $200+, instead ive buying oem assymbly from some guy. But my question is, how will I turn them on? Do i need to buy some switch that will attached to my door arm rest bevel or somewhere under my vents where the traction control button is??

or should I just buy a new turn signal arm that has the fog light switch and replace that, but would the fog light turn on through that new arm if i buy it?

anyone know?? help!!

It depends on if you want it to look factory or not. Obviously if you do then you'll want the new stalk. I will say this though, the fog lights are mostly for looks. When I'm driving down a dark road and turn them on and off I can barely tell.

I have the fog lights that were added later. They ran a switch to them on the small panel where the traction control button is. They're only on the signal arm on the Limiteds & others that came factory installed.

I have to disagree with this. I find they help tremendously. They light the area between the road & the normal headlight beams. Also fill in the sides nicely. They definitely help to light the road directly in front of you during rain & snow which helps. Do they help during actual fog... not really. None of them do. But they light the road more & flood the ground so there's no gaps. I have yellow overlays on mine & love the extra light they put out.

Not true, they are on the signal arm for my 5 speed sport, which is not a limited. Maybe if you get them installed at the port they put the switch on the dash, but for trims that include Fog Lights the switch is on the stalk.

I also think the light output sucks. I have PIAA 55watt lights on my motorcycle that are 10 times brighter and a lot more useful.

Best use is for seeing potholes and ice patches. These are fog lights and not driving lights. They are not supposed to have a long range.

If you have foglights from the factory they are on the stalk (as the others have said), else they are a switch on the side. The light output and beam pattern are comparable to every car I have owned with a factory foglight option. People are expecting a radiant beam of light which factory fogs don't give. The are NOT supposed to cover the same area as the headlights.

In regards to the whole off center thing, would this affect the key at all in terms of difficult to put in? I have noticed my key is a bit hard to get in at times.

I understand that, but I can barely tell a difference switching them on and off down a dark road, even directly in front of the car. Yes, you can see it, but its so unnoticeable, I can't help but think the lights are more for looks.

This is my first car with fog lights. I just assumed they were for looks because they dont help that much. If im that close to a pothole or something, im running over it. I keep mine off actually, not sure why. lol

hi guys thanks for the great responses on the fog light question. hmm i think ill need to buy a switch to then.

i looked into buying the stalk which isnt too expensive (approx 70 usd) but the issue is having to take apart the steering wheel setup (remove air bag etc to get to the stalk). I would love to do it with the stalk but sounds like more trouble than I want to deal with.

I guess ill just install a switch even though its not something I really want to do since its not like factory.

anyone ever take off steering wheel airbag? is it as bad as it seems on the factory service manual?
