Totally agree! I changed mine only because it tends to get cold here and I wanted the car to warm up as soon as possible. In the winter, I seemed to be seeing about a 1MPG gain after the switch. I'll probably go 75k before replacing it again - if I still have the car at that point.

How does changing the fluids help the car warm up faster?

I believe fluid weight variances would yield those results.

Default Badge of ownership

Let's see everyone's badges...kinda cool to see what everyone else is in to via lifestyle badges.

I received mine, but haven't decided if I'm going to put them on or not. With everyone complaining about how over-badged our cars are, and then de-badging them, I just can't convince myself to add even more badges.

Well, everyone can complain as much as they want, it won't affect my opinion.

Your animals and outdoor activies badges are the same as mine (as is the My First Subaru). I can't really see what your last two badges are.

Nice.

Just got mine the other day. Anything wrong with adding both 100k and 200k high mileage icons without reaching those milestones first? lol

General Question here.

How many of y'all change your own oil?

I find that having synthetic oil doubles the cost of my oil changes.

$80+ for an oil change is pricey and wanted to see if someone had already started a thread on how to change the oil for the 2012 Impreza.

Any help or advice would be great!

I usually take my car to Big O Tires or any oil changer places around my area.

I have this coupon that I buy every year from Big O Tires. $20 for 3 free oil changes with a payment of $7.99(Oil filter)

Well took my car in yesterday and they said it would cost me about 80+ since they have to special order synthetic oil and a synthetic filter..

They said the coupon is only good if I'm using regular oil...

SMH...

Funny, that's the first thing I thought of when I read about your "free" oil change coupons. I bet it even says that in the fine print!

Wow, Amsoil is special order. You don't need a synthetic filter either. Forget that place. Shop around if you can't do it yourself. Expect to pay at least $50. Wally world charges $55.

Just as I thought it says additional charges may apply on some vehicles.

I buy my Amsoil OE 0W20 from a local distributor, so I don't pay shipping. And as was said earlier, I buy my Subaru oil filters on eBay, in a 3-pack, for approximately $7 each.

I've only changed the oil on this car once so far (at 1700 miles; currently has 4800 miles). I installed a Fumoto valve at that time. I got the one with the nipple (F-108N) so that I could control the flow better, using a tube.

I jack up my car rather than use ramps. I've had a bad experience with ramps in the past, so I prefer to lift my cars onto jack stands.
