Quick question guys, I'm pretty sure you all have heard rumors about the 2014 WRX and have probably heard about it not being an Impreza anymore. For me part of the current and past WRX's appeal is the fact that it's a compact and practical car that goes really fast and is relatively cheap. Thoughts have been playing around in my head about trading in my 2012 CVT Premium hatch for a 2013 WRX hatch...I'm scared that if I wait till the time that the actual car (2014 WRX) comes around that it might not be what I'm hoping for: a rally-bred/inspired version of the regular Impreza that we all have now complete with a nice hood scoop (as pictured in the spy shots) , nice bumpers, a wide stance and of course, a turbo. I don't want a weird, shorter wheelbase (as rumored), possibly coupe WRX. I want something fast with 4/5 doors that I can use everyday. Money isn't really a factor since the Subaru guaranteed trade in program will help me get a good deal come trade-in time, all that matters to me is that I am not upside down on my loan, thank God for our good resale values.

I'm just thinking out loud...dunno...

I would really appreciated input from fellow 2012/2013 Impreza owners.

Thanks in advance.

No crosswinds. The weather is pretty calm here in L.A.

But like I said before, it only happens sometimes during my commute in the morning. Always at speeds of 60-70 mph, and it never happens in the city.

I was thinking that it could be the tire pressure. I have them all at ~35psi.
Does the freeway have grooves in it? If so its grabbing the tire. Happens on both our 2012 imprezas (wrx, sport) on the 91 fwy. Had me nervous until other people told me it happens to them sometimes too. Its most likely the freeway.

Pay off as much of your current car loan as you can, because if you switch over to a WRX your loan payment is going to increase. Try to have as much equity as possible before you trade (even with your 2012 Impreza holding its value, you took an instant depreciation hit on your car as soon as you drove it off the lot, along with all the other incedentals - tax - title - destination fee, etc).

Sometime in 2013, you will finally see the next generation WRX/STI (what you already saw isn't it), and then you can decide if you would rather buy a used WRX or get the next generation.

There may be a few 'new' 2013's around on dealers lots, but I bet not many.

Then again, if the redesign is a hit there may be a bunch of 2012-2013 WRX's getting traded in, so you might score a better deal trading for one of those. (actually it is bound to be both a hit and a miss -- see the next paragraph)

I expect shock and awe, with some current WRX owners bemoaning the new version, and some inspired to trade for it. It was no different with the redesign of the Impreza, what some Subura fanatics despise about the new Impreza others like me think are a vast improvement.

In any case, if you want to retain resale value, it makes sense to buy the newer version of anything (at least in a car like the WRX) vs an older one. These are not classic collector cars.

Since you currently have a loan, start paying extra now. It will make everything easier later to have more equity to play with, and it will let you know if you really want to take on a larger monthly bill to trade into a WRX, whichever version you decide you like.

I would wait until the new model comes out. It wont be a coupe because theyve had such success with 4dr and they wouldnt want to compete with their own brz. And you could find a used or possibly new 2013 on a dealer lot after next gen comes out.

Personally I dont think the 2014 wrx will look that different from 2012 2.0i exterior-wise. Maybe wider, with more sporty features or vents or lights but I cant see them starting from scratch. Either way, i cant wait to see the new 2014s.

Yea and pay off your loan first. lol

Good luck.

Now that I think about it, they do have grooves. It's good to know that it isn't anything too serious. I guess I'm just going to have to deal with it until I get a set of new tires.

You should post in Classifieds. Also, the curt won't fit the 2012. I had one.

Had dealer do it on my 2008 OBS. Involved taking out a freeze plug and screwing the block heater in and some kind of expansion thingy. Then they routed the AC cord to the front. I think that it took about 1/2 hour for them to do this. It was at "no cost" for the installation as that was one of the stipulations for the sale. Never used it though.

Update on the attempt to mount the axleback. It was no bueno the flange/pipe for the '08 STI was 2.5", while our '12 is 2.25"

I'll just go with a muffler delete with a custom drop down down to get that sound, like italia490 did

Do the holes meet up? You might be able to just bolt it together despite the pipe diameter difference.

Unfortunately, no the holes didn't meet up, the bolts didn't let them.

I just don't feel like messing with coolant. Didn't look complicated

I plan to use it though because of the extreme warm up sequence these cars go through. Anything to help mpg out this winter will be useful

Would an exhaust shop be able to fabricate you a connector to get it to fit or just straight up wield it together?

If your goal is to save gas, then you'll be spending way more money on the heater w/ install + electricity. Not worth it IMO unless you live in conditions where it get REALLY cold.

In Jan/feb -25 to -30 is not unheard of. And multiple days will break below zero with highs never going positive again. Over the course of 10 years/250,000 miles i plan to drive this car a few hundred now won't hurt the longevity.

I do drive about 25k/year at present

Anytime that the temps stay below zero for more than a day, a block heater makes sense. I bought mine because of the winter of 1983/1984 here in Omaha. 30+ days where the highs were below zero and the lows in the -25 area. Really hard to crank the car and also keep the battery from freezing (had one car that had the battery crack from freezing). If Flyboy1100 lives in/near Fargo, then it is a good idea to install the block heater and use it when necessary.

Correct.

I spent 1 winter in Omaha 2 years ago, as an outsider looking in, you would think Omaha never sees cold or snow from the way the locals behave. It's Nebraska, not Texas!

Never used a battery heater before it seems like if you use a block heater it keeps everything under the hood Warner than the outside, but i might look into it.

I'm not worried about it not starting, just preventive measures. And the mpg benefit isn't bad either.
