I use the hitch with my kuat sherpa since its easy on easy off.

Can anyone confirm the mounting fasteners on the sport mesh grill? I just got mine back from the upgrade and was shocked to see some kind of pan head plastic threaded screw apart from the flat push tab style fasteners that were on my original grill. Im alittle angry about it. Any pics of this area would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You can buy the weatherstripping for less than a buck from your dealer. Just buy a new one and put it on the sport mesh grill. That's what I did. It's not worth it to take it off of the stock one when you can get a brand new one for less than a buck.

I have a 2012 Impreza Sport Premium and the wife just traded in her 2012 3. The gas mileage was the only part about that car that was amazing. Sure it was sporty and fun to drive, but it didn't blow either of us away.

The Subaru was always our ride of choice when going places together. It also hauls our bikes, skis and kayaks. The Mazda seemed more cramped inside.

Had to get rid of it since kiddo #3 is on the way, but we honestly don't miss it. Doesn't hurt that the Acadia we picked up is loaded either.

After researching that hitch briefly, it says it requires drilling to mount. Is that the case with the impreza or does it simply bolt to some pre-drilled mounts on the frame?

bolts to pre drilled mounts on frame. the only thing you might have to do is use a dremel to make the whole larger but I did not need to. You would only make the hole bigger if you couldn't fish the bolts through easily. I hope your fishing technique is up to snuff he he

Hey 2012+ guys!

Can someone do me a big favor and cut open one of your used oil filters? I'm trying to see if they have metal end caps like the original black JDM filters.

See this thread:

Please post your findings there if you can. I only snoop on this thread here and there

Thanks, very much appreciate it.

Ya, it is an OEM part. And I doubt if there was ever a suspension issue that the dealer would even be able to tell the difference

it would really only enter into warranty denial territory if there was some major suspension issue in the rear of the car and they thought they could blame it on the sway bar.

The difference between the stock sway bar (if your car came with one) and the STI sway bar is a matter of millimeters.

It's not like they are popping a turbo from an STI on the 2.0i...

I have seen dealerships deny claims for the most minor of things. Examples being oil even though its the same weight you used brand X, oil filters, cabin air filter, etc.... When I use to take my honda in for recalls or tsb I had to sign waivers stating that they would not do work on my car if the purolator oil filter caused any issues. And as you can imagine any engine problems they would of course blame on the oil filter then the customer would be stuck proving the filter had nothing to do with it. Personally I never understood how an oil filter could make the hvac system go bad but thats just the game dealerships play. From all my experiences I learned a few things
1: never go to a dealership except for recalls, tsb, warranty work
2: Always show up with details of how to fix said recall, tsb, or warranty work
3: Warranties are worthless and you should not let a warranty scare you into not using Oil X, Filter Y, or etc. The same applies to the recent aftermarket warranty rip offs that are being pitched by insurance companies and others that say if you pay us 100 you will never have to pay for a costly repair again.
Total cost of ownership for cars = utter crap

In the same way a swaybar can be used to say warranty work denial so too can the
hitch I have on my car. Nothing is more hillarious than when dealerships start their bull**** make up crap denial dance. Just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt.

What you wrote is completely inacurrate, so I don't even know where to start, other than pointing you to the appropriate thread:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=803106

No manufacturer can void your warranty for using 'brand-x" (that's actually due to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the manufacture can require you a specific brand or part, but they have to provide it to you for free, which almost no manufacture wants to pay for, so that's why you can use any brand you want)

According to the Federal Trade Commission:

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for companies to void your warranty or deny coverage under the warranty simply because you used an aftermarket or recycled part.... The manufacturer or dealer must show that the aftermarket or recycled part caused the need for repairs before denying warranty coverage.

So can Subaru blame an upgraded sway bar for something like a blown transmission? Only if they can prove the sway bar contributed to the blown transmission.

Though if you have a hitch and they can prove you are trailering heavy things (like, say, the hitch bolts are bent) they can sure as hell deny your transmisison repair (because the owners manual specifically says not to tow with the Impreza), and towing heavy things can contribute to transmission failure.

They have to establish that the aftermarket part contributed to the problem, so there is no way they can claim the wrong brand oil filter caused your HVAC to fail.

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say.

My point was I have personally seen dealership make up idiotic reasons for warranty denial. the filter, oil, oil filter stuff were examples of this. The oil filter incident did happen to me and since I am welll aware of the manuson moss warranty act I was well aware of how full of it they were. I mean really an oil filter causing an hvac fan motor to go bad that was a pretty good stretch of the imagination.

I am aware that they must establish that the part caused the failure however by default the first words out of their mouth is always a supposition not actually based on facts.

I am well aware of the fact that you cannot tow with the hitch and I do not HOWEVER this did not stop the technician at the dealership I brought the car into from attempting
to some how infer that the hitch was causing the civics rear tire to go bald when cleary a TSB had been issued which stipulated that there was an issue with the civics rear chamber. Honda TSB 08-001

My point is this when you put an aftermarket part on your vehicle, it has been my experience that most dealerships will try and bs the customer so that they do not have to do the work even when in reality the problem is caused by a manufacturing defect.

As I have personally dealt with this type of issue on more than one occassion I tend never to listen to anything a dealership has to say or even entertain their proposterous conjectures when it comes to mechanical issues with the car.

Well I generally agree with you and do most of my own repairs or bring it somewhere I trust. I don't service my car at the dealer.

However, people get scared about warranty work when they should just get educated. I am not worried for the person who adds a sway bar (even a thicker one) to a car that is sold with a sway bar as an option. There is no warranty problem at all with that, unless something in the rear suspension wears out prematurely and it is directly related to the stiffer sway bar.

But other issues, like a blown motor, would still be covered under the warranty because it is completely unrelated.

Now don't go mounting a turbo, that would mess with the warranty for most of the engine, transmission, and drivetrain, because adding HP would void the warranty for issues that arose from a built engine.

Those issues account for many posts on the warranty thread, people who started adding power parts or retuning their car during the warranty period who eventually had ringland issues, or a blown piston, etc.

If you are gonna mess with things like that, you fall into the pay to play category, and should not expect the manufacturer to warranty that type of repair.

No not yet. I think I'm getting the Impreza. Now I'm just stuck waiting for the dealership looking for a color I like they can actually get. That impreza sport premium is a gorgeous little car.
