what kind of amp did you add? what do you mean by little? i think if you add a good amp to power the speakers, then the sound would be better also. but not sure what you mean by little amp you added.

Alpine 445u, 45x4 rms.

The sound is worlds different than stock, especially now that I have the eq disabled. Just not sure if I could get a little more punch from some different speakers or not. Overall I'm pretty happy with the sound, just there are times I find it lacking and I assume it is the speakers more than the source now

Which speakers do you have? If it's the non-Kicker system, you have a whole lot to gain.

Do you have the Kicker upgraded tweeters? They make a huge difference in the high frequency sounds.

maybe find a store where you can return the speakers if they dont make a difference? i guess that would be the only way to truly tell....however if the amp makes it sound better (which it should compared to stock) i think you are good...unless you are a audiophile then i can see why you want to change it out. but i know for sure changing the HU will make a world of difference alone...i just dont want to do that since i like my wheel controls and rather not mess with aftermarket stuff even though i know there are harnesses to make some of the wheel control work but i want to keep all of the wheel controls functioning.

i might add amp like you did.

and I already put in a similar HU from a Forester so I could add the OEM Sirius Tuner a new HU is not an option unless it is the 4.3" LCD model

i posted pics of the AMP install somewhere, can't remember where right now.

i think i have decided to buy speakers. I will probably get the Polk 6501 component unless someone can recommend something better with similar pricing. I will sell the kicker tweeters i have now.

for now I will leave the rears alone as they are mainly fill anyway.

anyone know where the stock wiring comes from for the stock tweeter location?

The 6501s are great, I think you'll enjoy them. It's easier to leave the stock tweeter wiring in place and drop the aftermarket tweeter wires through the dash.

It's tricky because the tube is made of two long overlapping sleeves so the wire can get stuck between them. It's easier to fish them through in one direction than the other. Armor-All helps.

Crossovers are in the door where a block of foam used to be, though I don't have pictures of them.

Whats the rattle like on the interior panels with the component speakers? Ive been wanting to change to components but have been afraid of the endless rattle fixes that seem likely to spring up. The plastic panels seem like they would a tinge of "snare" if you will.

The speaker upgrades are options - even on the limited.

I didn't notice any additional rattling after installing components. The grilles in the door cards are fairly open, so I'm not concerned about them coloring the sound. If you get rattles, it seems like foam or felt tape where plastic meets steel would take care of it. It's hardly a reason to be afraid of components.

The head unit is mostly at fault, due to its seriously warped EQ curve, which will make even good components sound like a walmart boombox. You can disable it through a secret button combination, and I strongly recommend doing this.

So, what is this button combination and what does it do exactly? Does this apply to the standard bluetooth head unit rather than the upgraded nav head unit?

Yes, it applies to the non-nav unit. The info is in this post.

There are built-in EQ curves based on body style that you can see here.

Then there is the loudness feature, which varies your EQ curve based on the volume.

If you want to hear the music as it was recorded and have good speakers, turn both of these off.

I run mine at 0dB. I don't find the tweeters harsh at all with a flat head unit EQ.

I'll keep that in mind about the shifter since I'm planning on getting one.

I'm unsure as to what exactly this does for me. Would you mind explaining it?

It defeats the electronic compensation in the head unit intended to make the awful stock speakers sound less awful. When you step up to better speakers, this compensation will make them sound worse, and some think it makes the stock speakers sound worse.

There's no harm in trying this and seeing how you like the sound. It's 100% reversible.
