Hey Bob, is the paint of the Impreza Sport Premium shown in all the photos one of the new colors?

Also, is there any chance Subaru has upgraded their paint process to improve paint durability?

I hope they improved the paint quality. After a little more than two and a half years (32K miles), my '09 Forester XT's paint looks like ****, and has tons of chips in it.

.. and this will be the reason I will recommend against the purchase of one when someone asks me. The paint was flaking off my STI when I sold it. Fix your damn paint, Subaru.

Can you put a trailer hitch on the 2012 Impreza Sport? I have a jet ski, and also planning on getting a small trailer for towing an ATV, kayak, and/or paddle boat. I am going to need to be able to do some light towing.

I really wish I got the Rally Armor mud flaps on the FXT. I wonder if I am going to get banged over the head on the lease return.

Default Subaru gives a nod to Hyundai during Impreza debut

We had to smile when Subaru introduced its new Impreza at the New York auto show last week. It gave a nod to Hyundai.

Subaru's Impreza gets 36 miles a gallon on the highway. Pretty darn good for a larger sedan. When it was being unveiled, it was noted that the mpg figure came without an asterisk, meaning you don't have to buy a more expensive special edition like a Chevrolet Cruze Eco or Ford Focus SFE or Honda Civic HF to get the extra bump in fuel mileage.

The no-asterisk mention was a nod to Hyundai, which has made it the centerpiece of a campaign to underscore how the Elantra midsize sedan achieves 40 mpg highway without all the extra razzmatazz of the special editions. In Subaru's presentation, executives even put a little red mark over the asterisk to show there are no special tricks to its strong mileage.

Dunno, I can't see any amount of STi cladding make this thing look remotely appealing. It's a family car station wagon now. woo woo
my family car station wagon at Homestead; oh yeah, forgot to mention...I've had 45 bags of mulch in it when necessary!

I doubt it

My new 2011 2.5i has the same weak, easy to scratch and chip paint job my 2003 WRX did.

I think that is one way Subaru saves money.

FWIW, my wife's slightly cheaper Honda Fit has a much much nicer paint job - I wish Subaru could at least match that quality.

TBH guys, paint, and paint processes are pretty much common across the industry

I have very few chips in the paint of my STI. Granted, I have clear bra on the very front, but even in the unprotected areas the paint is doing very well. Five winters, almost 80K miles, and by far the worst damage I get is from door dings. I wish Subaru would use steel with a bit more spring to it when they build the door skins.

You want to see really awful paint? Go to a BMW dealer.

My 09 WRX w/36k is riddled with chips on the hood. Almost to the point to where when I trade it in soon they may be asking for a new paint job.

I continually find more bumps and scrapes in the Garnet Red paint on my Legacy.

From just under the window sill of the rear driver's side door, the passenger's side rear fender just above the wheel well, and just at the tip of the rear fender, where the fender meets the trunk and the top of the tail light.

The forward facing surfaces are worse.

if the car gets breathed on wrong, it seems to harm the paint.

I got back from the NYIAS a little while ago. I wished there was one or two on the floor to sit in and get a closer look at. Looks good, but I was a little disappointed that there was no info for any of the other 2012 models.

For the 2012 Impreza, can it be used to tow small things (short distances like 5-10 miles), such as a Jet Ski?
