Just a Dremel. Cutting disk for most of it, then a grinder to curve the edges together. Then I got all the frayed plastic off, cleaned up the edges, and then put that Door Edge Guard over it to give it a nice factory look.

I found that link, and it looks sketchy. I know the Service Manual's sold on eBay disappeared a little while back. Anyone know where to find them now?

If not, i'll use the Subaru tech site link and pay the 34$ for a day's use to grab it all.

Thanks in advance.

It works great, just like my 6 month oil filter change (keeping the Amsoil signature series so I did not drain it)

Simplest oil change and filter change for any car I have owned!

I know that this is relative, but how long are you guys planning on running the signature for? I'm impressed with the oil thus far, I think I'm about 2000 miles in and don't have any oil usage yet

my UOA i submitted in Jan/Feb was with 8200+ and it was still in good shape that is with lots of really cold weather on it. I am hoping for about 12-15k

once I run it again I will pull a UOA @ 10k and see how it is doing as i already know it is good for 8200 and they told me to try 10K

If my oil level stays where it is, I'll try to send in a sample to get a better idea of how it's doing in my car too...thanks!

I would definitely not push it over 10k w/o sampling to verify it is still good oil, even if others say it is good in theirs, every engine is different

I am on an annual change interval with Signature Series for both my impreza and my wifes rogue, neither of us drive more than 12,000 miles per year so I am not bothering with UOA.

Of course I also did an early oil change @1,200 miles to get junk out of the engine and my first oil change to signature series @ 8000 miles so I am still within the subaru recommended oil change intervals (until the end of this year, that is...)

I'm planning on a 6500 mile OCI with the Pennzoil Platinum, which is the same OCI I was planning to use with the Amsoil OE. Maybe at 6500 miles on the Pennzoil I'll submit a Used Oil Analysis sample just out of curiosity.

Well they cant deny warrany service because I listen to the manual...

Im not really worried, but I should have played it safe especially that early in the cars life.

Oh well... no oil burning or performance issues thus far.

Your manual states 10k mile OCI's??

And you can assume this will be true for the life of the car. My guess is that if oil consumption issues don't present themselves early in the car's life (let's say, in the first 5k miles), then I wouldn't expect a well-maintained car to develop consumption issues for a very long time, if ever.

In every car I've kept beyond 100k miles, other parts of the car failed (and forced me to replace the car) before the engine failed. This fleet includes six Hondas, one Mitsubishi Galant (1989, and the most reliable car I've ever owned), and one Plymouth Voyager.

In all of these cars, the engine was running just fine when the car was sold. None were consuming oil.

I read this and thought you were being sarcastic, I was about to respond "I hope so?"

Yeah I agree with you, my last car, 95 accord, I often went 10k without changing the oil, and that was non synthetic, often not even the reccomended weight (10w-30 in lieu of 5w-30) And no issues ever.

While this isnt the same powertrain, drivetrain, transmission, etc. Id hope the impreza isnt too fragile...

I have zero worries, because I have receipts for the purchase of 5 oil filters, and oil for the two changes I did, and only 11,000 miles on the clock. At this point I am ahead of the factory oil change schedule, and there is no evidence whatsoever "when" I did those two changes, so I can show I have been changing the oil.

And at my current mileage, no oil consumption. The odds of a lubrication related warranty issue (other than those with oil burners?) -- very very low.

I will do the 12 month Amsoil Signature series oil change (@~12,000 miles on it per oil change) from here on out, and change the oil filter midway (like I just did a week ago, a 10 minute job including letting the new filter absorb some oil before installation). The car will be out of warranty in a few years, so at that point it really would not matter from a warranty standpoint.

If I thought the car was likely to explode, I would have taken the dealer up on their offer, a free lifetime powertrain warranty if I pay them $80 every 5,000 miles to service it...

with a free car wash, and only takes me an hour or two at the dealer...

no thanks, I would rather service it myself. The odds that I will forget to install a drain plug or put oil in are very low...and I have seen dealers screw simple services up a lot. Somehow when you own it, your attention span is longer...

The June 2013 issue of Car & Driver confirms this. On page 36 is an article about a fancy and expensive ($3 million) K&C (Kinematics & Compliance) Machine that tests "...which way the wheels point and tilt when subjected to the full array of cornering, accelerating, and braking forces."

Anyway, the guy who owns and operates this machine states that "he's never seen an aftermarket strut-tower brace provide a measurable handling benefit."

So people considering this upgrade might want to spend their money elsewhere. For those who have already purchased and installed one, well at least it looks cool when you pop the hood.
