Reliability and Subaru doesn't flood the market. There's no rental car contracts with Subaru, so they're not getting whored out like Fords, Chevys, Toyotas, etc. Fewer cars in the market that last longer and are sought-after? They've still got pretty strong residual value because of those things.

Interesting point. My guess is that Subaru doesn't flood the market with rental car contracts because they simply don't have the manufacturing capacity to do so. Subaru and Mazda are TINY compared to Ford and GM and Toyota and VW. I think they struggle just to keep up with the demand of individual buyers like us.

Not with Imprezas, but the bigger Legacy is a much more common sight. I think the only more common cars in some of the rental lots I go to are '12 Altimas and Camries (Camrys?).

Given that Subaru is such a beast in the winter, and the fact that the Impreza is so spacious inside, I couldn't help but wonder why there weren't any Imprezas being used as taxis. The smaller manufacturing capacity point kind of makes sense, and I guess the city fuel consumption figures are also not really that stellar - especially compared to hybrids, which seem to dominate the taxi market.

Honestly, though - I wouldn't mind sitting in an Impreza taxi. The rear seats are very comfortable and the head room is perfect for someone as tall as I am - those p.o.s. hybrid vehicle taxis barely fit me, and I'm either finding myself sitting in the front passenger seat, or scrunched up like a prawn in the back.

Probably because, at least for large cities that have fleets of taxis, fares are regulated, and if the style of car is not legislated, rates they can charge are, so more fuel efficient cars allow for a greater profit margin. Also, marginally less wear and tear (one less differential to service).

I visited Germany in 1990, and the local taxis included many Mercedes. That was kind of cool, never saw a Mercedes taxi in the states.

Many countries taxis are Mercedes. Any funny enough, Hyundai vehicles are the status that Mercedes are in the states. In the Philippines for example, the wealthy community prefer Hyundai's and Mercedes are common vehicles. It's a sight really, how differently we look at things. I remember when I first got married I wanted to buy my wife the new Kia sorento. I looked at the merc and the RX350, but liked the Kia better after driving them. My banker laughed at me and told me I'd never sell it, they will not loan money on used ones. That's all changed now of course. I never liked the RX, and traded it off for a Z71 Tahoe. We are close to dishing it off for something new, and now I'm torn between the new Kia Sorento and the Subaru Tribecca. I'm past what the badges say, especially since I'll debadge it anyway.

Is this normal? It doesn't seem like many people are complaining about the heated seat element. I didn't notice it initially but I first noticed it when pivoting to get out of the seat. I may be focusing on it now a little more than before but after a while it gets uncomfortable. I also feel just a tad bit violated given its placement.

I believe someone tried to start one, but it died quickly. This is the 12-13 Impreza thread, Im sure it will include '14, and '15 models eventually.

If it could be renamed, that would be cool.

Ah, gotcha.

Maybe name it after the generation rather than a year?

I am curious if any problems people are mentioning on this thread for the 2012 model were addressed in the 2013 model and weather any new problems arose in '13.

My 2012 was manufactured late in the model year, and hasn't shown many of these problems.

My car was pre-ordered and so manufactured among the first of the 2012's and I have not had any issues either.

Excellent.

Actually, this should come as no surprise. Per Consumer Reports, the 2012 Impreza hatchback gets solid red (excellent) reliability dots in all categories except for Squeaks and Rattles, where it gets a half-black dot. For the 2012 Impreza sedan, it gets solid red reliability dots in all categories except for Suspension, which is still a half-red dot.

Hatchback or sedan, the 2012 Impreza is proving to be highly above average (66% above average for the sedan, and 50% above average for the hatchback).

If there's a refresh for the 2014 model year (new components, different performance levels), then maybe there might be a need for a 2014 thread. I'm perfectly content to use the 2012 thread though for my 2013 discussion.

I own a 2012 Impreza and I am happy with the car. My only complaint is the amount of outside noise in the car. Maybe Subaru should put some sound deadening in the cars.

I'm guessing you have the CVT. Owners with that tranny seem to have more complaints about noise than 5MT owners.

Subaru seems to have taken that complaint into consideration when they decided to add sound deadening material to the underside of the hood of CVT Imprezas, whereas 5MT Imprezas don't have that material.

I'm not saying my 5MT is super quiet. But coming from a string of noisy Hondas, I don't find it obnoxious. My TDI was MUCH quieter; I think VW wanted to nip the "diesels are loud" preconception that many people have, so they went to great lengths to add sound deadening materials.

It seems most of the noise is from the tires. On really smooth roads (like new pavement) the noise is reduced. My car is a four door sedan. It was one of the first as I bought it December 26,2011. I wonder if I put dynamat or some sort of sound deadening blanket in the trunk and under the back shelf if it would help.

The problem is road noise.

Once you get up to speed the CVT doesn't add noise.

It's not an issue for me though either. My last car was a 2002 Civic which was even worse. It's just the way compact sedans sound.

I'm content as well. Just figuring the lay of the land. If the place to post about a 2013 is in a 2012 thread then so be it. Just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anything.

Yeah, the 2013 thread died out after about a page or so. More noise than signal.

Contrary to 79's comment you're not the only one. Exact thing happened to mine. When I turned to get out of the seat it felt like I was sitting on a Chapstick or battery or lighter. I had the squeaky seat back issue previously & right before they came out with the TSB they replaced my seat back with the old version (paper wrapped springs).

So here we are a few months later with a squeaky seat again. Dealer ordered the parts for the springs & looked at the bunching in the seat bottom & it's the heating element. They said they tried to fix it & made it worse so they ordered a new heating element for me. I rarely have a passenger so the squeaks & bunched up heating element ate isolated to my drivers seat only.

Months ago someone else noticed this as well so it seems to not be quite as isolated after all.

So far mine's not squeaking. So right now I am just trying to forget about it as I'm driving. I know I definitely feel the heating element getting out of the car. I'm trying to ignore it while driving. I didn't remember noticing it earlier on so maybe I'm thinking about it too much but I swear its chillin dead center in my...

Have you gotten the new element installed yet?
