So, I've been setting things on the passenger seat next to me every day since the day I bought my Impreza. I've set groceries and laundry on it. I set my iPad on it every single day.

For the first time today, I set my iPad on the seat and the seatbelt alarm went off. It wouldn't go off until I removed the iPad. I put it back and the alarm went off again. Same thing all day, to and from work.

What gives?

Interesting. I knew this was a common complaint with the early 2012 Imprezas, but I thought it was fixed in later 2012s and all 2013s.

Does anyone know if there is a TSB for this problem?

I had the problem that my check SRS airbag system light would randomly turn on and off. I went to Subaru with the problem and it was a faulty passenger seat airbag sensor...what's next?

This is my work around for that problem.

The Official Subaru instructions, here they are:

1. Turn engine to ACC

2. Within 30 secs of ignition, clip/unclip seatbelt 20 times. Driver side only but works for both sides. Removes the red light and beeping.

There is a TSB for this.

Service Bulletin # 17-16-12
Pages: 8

Bulletin Description: If you encounter a customer complaint that the Air Bag Warning Light was illuminated and the Passenger Air Bag Indicator was OFF when the passenger seat was occupied, the Occupant Control Unit may need to be replaced. This bulletin is only applicable if DTC B1650, B1760 and/or B1761 are also stored in memory. A possible occupant action that may have resulted in this condition would be the use of an iPod or cell phone (plugged into the Accessory power outlet) by someone seated in the passenger seat when the ODS is On. Another cause may be a seated passenger touching a metal part of the vehicle that is electrically grounded (i.e. forward/rearward seat adjuster lever) when the ODS is On. The possibility of these conditions affecting the ODS is dependent upon the occupant’s personal capacitance. To reduce the possibility of the condition reoccurring, the Occupant Control Unit logic was modified to be less sensitive under those conditions.

That will remove the bell but the airbag is still armed when it doesn't need to be.

True but I never have anyone in front seat that is too small for airbag.

My experience with the airbag issue:

I'd be driving around with a passenger, the passenger airbag indicator would switch to "off", and the airbag warning light on the dash would come on. Got that taken care of under warranty.

The new sensor is still very sensitive. If I just lightly rest my hand on the passenger seat while driving, it starts buzzing at me. Doesn't usually happen for groceries, though.

Another, unrelated seat issue that I've been having:

Around six weeks ago, I was driving home from work and felt something collapse a bit in the drivers seat. Got home, opened up the seat, found that a little metal clip along the right side of the seat had snapped. The clip had been holding the front and back parts of the frame together, if I recall correctly. It was about halfway up the seatback. Anyway, I got it fixed under warranty. Happened again yesterday, though. I'm just over 150 lbs, so there's no reason I should be breaking parts of the seat. Has anyone else had this happen?

Is anyone having seat problems with the leather seats? Or is it just the fabric?

I don't have any problems with mine that I know of, but maybe I just haven't noticed it.

I'm at the dealership this am getting a couple things done: squeaky front drivers seat, remote start TSB, and the rear hatch latching issue.

I'll let you guys know if they find anything with the rear hatch, as I know others have had problems with it as well.

If they tell you that there is no adjustment for the rear hatch, tell them to look at page EB-61 in the Service Manual!

So as others have had happen, the tech wasn't able to "hear" the squeak of the drivers seat. I said that there's a TSB out there for the fix, all though he wasn't totally certain of one. He said they would have to replace the whole seat back which is insane, maybe I should just forward this to him:

Quote:
Service Bulletin #12-142-12
Pages: 3

Bulletin Description: This Bulletin provides a repair procedure to address a customer concern of a squeaking-type sound coming from the driver or passenger front seat back. The flat mat main support rods are covered in paper to prevent metal-to-metal contact with the backrest frame. However, if an edge on the backrest frame damages the paper, metal-to-metal contact will result, creating the squeak. Bushings will need to be installed to prevent the condition. This procedure eliminates the need to replace the backrest frame.
I really have my doubts that they'll do anything for the squeak

They replaced my seatback. It didnt help. even adding bushings didnt help.
Somehow that seat just never felt at all right.
I wonder if zip-ties may be the last resort to keeping the springs where they are supposed to be.

No luck on the squeaky seat. Tech heard it faintly and it's pretty loud to me. Maybe time for a new dealer. Nothing on the rear latch either, just a little extra lube and that's it

My dealership literally had to replace broken lumbar spring clips in my seatback 4 separate times! They finally smartened up and ordered the bushings for the seatback TSB. Its been about a month and so far, so good. Haven't experienced any more squeaks or broken clips since. (Knock on wood).

Yup I will probably end up doing that. I think they're just being lazy because its really easy to hear the squeaking when in the car.

just added 0.4qts (13oz) to my car today to bring it back up to the "full" line (after oil change full line, so 3.16" above the dot). currently at 4400 miles on this interval. not worried about it I guess, but it did use probably 7-8oz over my trip this week to Kansas where it was 100+ every day! I checked it before I left and I was at the full dot, and before adding oil was 1/4" below, not bad for 1700 miles and those temps!. I 100% blame the temps in this case, but I have another 2500+ mile trip planned in 3 weeks and I am undecided if i will change the oil before or after the trip so that is why I added oil.

also can't decide what kind of oil I want to go with, I'm not a big fan of Amsoil OE, it does seem to use a little bit more than when I was using Signature, but Signature is hard to justify unless I am going to an extended interval which I don't know if i really want to do that when still under the warranty, even with UOA's to prove the oil is doing good. I'm not worried, it is just the freak chance of what if....

so Amsoil XL or Signature, when I used XL before it was still breaking in so I don't think i gave it a fair evaluation, maybe I will try that again and next time I order oil (6-7months) I will get Signature again.

Are you happy about your oil consuming impreza? It seems as though at the moment your content about it and acting as its a normal function of the car, but what if it gets worse over time? Will you change how you feel about it as it gets worse or keep thinking it's normal? I don't mean to attack you or anything, just wondering why it doesn't seem to phase you at all that you have to add oil while others do not.
