Where did you get yours from and what coupon code?? I need one too!

Does anyone happen to know the exact model radio(s) that are exact plug-and-play into our 12/13 Imprezas that have the "base radio" to upgrade to the non-navigation screen radios?

I know it was covered some time back.. Just seeing if anyone has a list of which ones work.

I have the standard radio (non-screen) in my Sport, and simply want to swap to the screen radio that has HD Radio, the SRS feature, and will still retain my OEM steering wheel stuff.

Do I need anything extra, or is the harness the exact same?

I was originally figuring on installing a Pioneer double-din with these features and Alpine-R speakers all around, but for simplicity and ease of install, I may just go for the OEM non-navigation screen with the optional Kicker speakers..

I know what you mean I have it too but I HATE that it shuts off when a door is open. But what exactly is the added security feature you're referring to??

If you go aftermarket you could do a security system with remote start and keyless entry for the price of oem remote start installed my dealer. Ours wants $600 for parts and labor for oem remote start. That would get you a lot in the aftermarket options. Thinking about offering oem subaru remote starts installed for $475 on craigslist. Make $125 and save them $125.

SIA, in relation to your text the other day, saying your aero crossbars were in a Yakima box.. I looked at the optional "round crossbar" package through Subaru.. It's the Yakima Railgrab. It's the same price through that Subaru Parts Online site as it is at REI. Incase you were curious. lol

Also, anyone happen to know if our front and rear Subaru emblems (the oval ones) are the same size as any other Subaru's?

Here is a link to the non-nav unit I sold.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hlight=clarion

You do need a harness to make it plug and play.
Here is the harness. You can have David modify the harness so certain settings in the head-unit are not disabled while in motion, but you will lose the feature that increases the volume as you accelerate. You'll have to decide which feature is more important to you.

http://ae64.com/20-pincombinedharness.htm

I gotta tell ya, if you're not happy with the sound, don't bother with the Subaru/Clarion unit upgrade. It won't effect the sound enough to make you happy. I went from the standard stereo, to the standard stereo with aftermarket speakers, and then to the color display head-unit, but the sound didn't really improve until I went totally aftermarket with the head-unit. The Subaru units are just too underpowered.

^ actually no, the stock speakers aren't too bad, it's the piece of **** head unit. You're 100% better off upgrading the head unit first.

The stock speakers are horrible at any power level. What a lot of people perceive as "good bass" is just uncontrolled resonance.

Look at the tiny magnet of the stock speaker and you'll see that more power is not the answer. Throwing it in the garbage is the answer.

The stock HU is good with aftermarket speakers at reasonable volume levels.

For anyone who has done it, would you suggest all OEM upgrade (non-nav screen, Kicker speaker upgrade) or all aftermarket? Both can be had for ballpark, around the same price as long as you stay within reason.

Whiteboy just so you know what I'm running. It's the oem non navi screen but not base HU. Got oem tweeter upgrade, put Polk audio in all 4 doors and installed 2, 8" active enclosure subs and amp combos by fusion, one under each seat. The setup works good if you have to have LOUD music if go aftermarket. But I like pretty loud and this does the trick. The secret is to disable the factory set equalizer and loudness setting. If you tune your lows, mids and highs you need to have a flat signal to do that to. The stereo has a preset eq that sucks and when you mess with anything you throw it way out of spec. Don't know how to do it on the base model only the small screen I have

Yeah, I adjusted the "hidden menu" right after I got it and it helped alot.. But it just sounds like you can get a better overall system going aftermarket for the same price range as going all OEM upgraded..

If it's same price, go aftermarket all day long.

They're 6.5 speakers in all 4 doors, correct? So just get the 6.5 rear and 6.5 components for the fronts and you're good to go? I had the Alpine Type-S in my CRX. Will probably go Type-R in the wagon.. Does the adapter to use the steering wheel controls work, or is that a wash?

Yes, 6.5" all around. You can keep most of the steering wheel controls using the Axxess ASWC Steering Wheel Interface Module, but I could not get the phone controls to work regardless of what tricks I tried. I found a guy who claimed he was able to get the phone buttons to work with his Alpine system (I'm running a Kenwood), but when pressed for details he wouldn't provide proof. Also, you'll have to use an aftermarket mic for the phone.

I can get the phone to pickup and hang up but that is all i could get with my kenwood. Using the Axxess ASWC. I have to use my phone or the face of the stereo for everything else.

Re. stereo:

Back in March, I replaced my stock head unit and speakers with a nice Pioneer double-din head unit and some mid-level Pioneer door speakers. I previously had the base system, with no upgrades. There was an enormous improvement in sound quality, though I don't know if that was more due to the speakers or the HU.

My base model car didn't have steering wheel controls to worry about. Apparently they're one of the trickier things to deal with when replacing the HU in our cars. There's a guy who posts on here called SVXDC who will sell you a wiring harness that supposedly makes it work.

Did you get yours from Crutchfield? Was wondering how their free install kit was on this car..

I can get the radio I want a little cheaper elsewhere, but the free install kit is a bonus.

I got the HU and speakers at Best Buy, and the kit from Amazon (dash kit from Scosche, I forget who made the wiring harness), because Best Buy didn't stock the necessary parts. Best Buy also did the installation, because I was concerned that if I tried it I'd just end up with a wasted day and a bunch of broken trim pieces.

I haven't heard anything bad about Crutchfield's kits, and free is always nice. I bought from Best Buy because they had a nice sale on the parts I was getting, and the install kit was a relatively small portion of the total price.
