Maybe it cuts cost

The gauge pics on here ate the same white face with red illumination

Maybe they'll look cooler at night?

I wish they would have some numbers there (like BMW) instead of + / - only. It just seems weird that the more you floor it, it goes to "-" and the more you coast, it goes to "+"...

Does anybody know what the attached (below) configuration is for the interior?

It seems that this is not the NAV screen, since all the interior pics that I've seen of the NAV have one knob on the left side only. I like this better with the symmetrical look of having knobs on both sides.

The screen is showing an iPod playing, but seems bigger (and more colorful) than the normal radio only screen. Could there be 3 different screens?

1) Radio Only
2) This one (some multimedia option)?
3) Nav Screen

Looks similar to the new LCD screens found in the 2011 Foresters. 2011 WRX are pining for them because they're a direct swap for the stock unit while maintaining your steering wheel controls, slightly better quality sound from the speakers, and better music display.

Hmmmm I like the look of this a lot better than the nav screen but I've only seen one website that shows this as in image for 2012 Impreza Interior:
http://www.caranddriver.com/news/car...erior_photo_29

I'm pretty sure the demo's at the NY Auto Show had Navs so they looked different. I hope this is the standard option for 2012 Impreza without Nav...

Chanomatik do these Forester LCD screens come in units without nav, or with nav only? Just wondering if there is a "non-Nav" version with this type of LCD, which is what it looks like they are displaying here for the 2012 Impreza

When you go to the Subaru website, click on the "Forester 2.5X Limited" tab. You'll notice it specifies "4.3-inch LCD Display". I thought I pulled up which models it was specific to when I visited their site months ago, but I can't pull it up now. Hmmm... I know it's higher-end models, though.

Since for 2011 Impreza, the 4 speaker audio system and the 6 speaker audio system look different, I'm assuming the image shown is for the 6 speaker audio system (with the LCD)....

Unless they have an entirely new trim level in which case that's all out the window.

2011 Forester. Key Features. Electronics and Audio. Middle pic with the iPod connected. It states that the HD radio equipped LCD screen stereo comes standard on the 2.5X Limited and Touring models, as well as the 2.5XT Touring.

I think we've discussed that the 2012 Impreza will be the first Impreza to get a Limited type trim because they've never offered leather seats before. Is that the trim you'd most likely go for?

I paused that last youtube vid at 2:02 and stared at it for a while. I'm thinking the sedan is going to look awesome in a DGM color.

Is that MPG gauge basically a TPS gauge?

You can view pics of the four of the five(!) different Forester head units side-by-side here:
http://www.cars101.com/subaru/forest...11photos2.html

Note that the 4.3" LCD is used to display the rearview camera's feed on non-NAV models.

Pics of all five head units can be seen about 1/4 of the way down this page:
http://www.cars101.com/subaru/forest....html#overview

Depends what the limited includes. I really like the subaru light grey interior so if I could get white (or black) ext. with the light grey leather interior I'd go for the limited....

Hope we can get some indication of trim levels and included features soon.

Wow, all those parts seem very inefficient. Most mfg just make 2, nav and non-nav.

The MPG gauge shows actual fuel consumption compared to your average fuel consumption. So it shows a relative value, not an actual absolute value.

My wife's 2010 Legacy Wagon also has this gauge (L/km).

So they squared the back end (viewed from the side) to make it look more like a Mazda, used a Legacy front end, and took design cues from the Prius--particularly at the front doors--with the overall effect being that of a crossover vehicle or minivan.

This Impreza recalls the lack of inspiration that Subaru parodied in its 2010 Mediocrity ad campaign. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/05/s...paign-w-video/

I am sure this car will appeal to the unthinking proletariat.

While design is subjective we think that the '08 was a nice, clean design but the '12 will have much more presence and perhaps be more interesting visually.

Presence??????????

Oh, hell no.

Not the return of "Road Presence."

I hate that term. HATE IT. It is completely undefined and nebulous, and it is used to justify whatever aesthetic sins need to covered.

And it was used as the justification for the the 2010 Legacy's appearance and bulk, which RUINED the Legacy for me.

That term re-surfacing is not a good sign.

Didn't they use this term to describe the new 2011 WRX/STI? I think it has worked well for them so far.

If it has worked so well, can you provide a technical (as in an aesthetic device or technique that can be applied visually, not as in under-the-skin engineering) definition of what "road presence" is, that can be applied to any car, anywhere, built by anyone?

Best I can tell, it is a term with no technical definition, and is just marketing speak to put positive spin on ugly.

All subjective words have no technical definition. This is opinion, not math. By presence, we mean the car is more visually interesting.. actually it doesn't look bigger in our opinion, just more well defined, sharper. (plus it isn't bigger)
