A lineup is all the cars they want to sell. All of those cars taken as a group establishes a trend, and a brand identity, which allows people to form an opinion and an expectation of what they spend their money on, when they buy one of those cars.

If you don't give 2 *whatevers*, then why did you answer the question yes, when you should have either ignored the question, or answered "I don't give 2 *____s*."

Subaru should consider who is selling whatever they develop... because it is going to divide the pool of people like you.

There are a finite number of people who share your desire for this type of car. Good for you, and I WANT someone in the market to provide you with what you want.

But for the finite number of you, they are going to divide your number by however many variants of this car they sell. Likely 2 in the US market. Some of you will buy Scion, some Subaru. Each brand is going to have overhead for sales, advertizing, service, and support, as well as warranty consideration. That is redundant overhead compared to just selling under one brand or the other.

Congratulations, when you buy it, you'll be paying a little more for that overhead cost per unit.

But that wasn't my point, and I still want to get answers about the general subaru lineup question from people who still DO care about what Subaru is, and what they offer as a brand, in terms of ALL the cars that they offer, not just one.

If Subaru built it then they deserve to sell it with their badge on it. THAT'S why I want the Subaru version.

Plus I'm hoping the Subaru version will look quirkier than the FR-S. Back to the roots!

I think for being USDM our line-up is quite healthy. The American people have spoken and they really could care less about manual transmission, AWD Subaru vehicles with turbos. Enthusiasts care, but we're such a minority. When Subaru has more money to throw at such a project (more turbo variations or even neo-SVX trims) in a few years, then maybe we'll see some limited runs.

And don't think that ONLY enthusiasts purchase turbo trims of any of the current or past Subaru vehicles. There are plenty of people that have no clue what they're driving. They just know it was more power available to them.

Some people are cool enough to prefer manual transmissions because of how they were raised or just realized it themselves.

With the new 2012 Impreza (look, on topic!), though, it won't matter because the manual transmission won't be as efficient as the CVT trims.

I still think Hip should work for SOA just long enough to convince them to build the car he wants and then quit after it's done and he gets one to take home, regardless of it selling well or not. Heck, just convince them to make a CONCEPT and take THAT home with you! How you like them apples, Hip?

Was about to pull the trigger on a 2011 WRX Limited that had everything but the color i wanted when an out of state dealer mentioned they could order me a 2012 and it would be about 10 weeks out for delivery. I immediately called my local dealer i have been working with and he said he checks everyday with no order form available.

So who should i believe here? Is the out of state dealer misinformed or is the local just a little behind? I have asked the out of state for the order form and options sheet will let you know what they say.

I did this with my 08...I got black and wanted blue.

IMO never settle on a color, if they don't have the one you want wait a few more months and get it.

Options are easy to add/change but color is something you are stuck with.

We should know the ordering info for the 2012s very soon since Canada already has theirs.

From what I read, Subaru is just supplying base engine and chassis technology. Toyota has lead the design, engine tuning, suspension etc. Is that wrong? Seems like a Toyota product to me.

^I hope SOA Blog doesn't see that. You might want to go read their past posts.

Quote:
What we've always said is that Subaru is leading the engineering on this car. We know, we've seen the drawings and they have a star cluster in the corner. Now, we haven't discussed where we are sourcing various parts and components and that info will all be available at debut. As for the question if are there Toyota enginers on the project - it's pretty certain that if you were developing a car with a partner, you'd have your engineers working on it too, for sure, that's why it's a joint project, but as we said, we are leading and responsible for the engineering on this car.
Quote:
Which brings us back to our original statement: Each company brings its expertise. Toyota is responsible for the design and packaging side of this project and we are responsible for engineering. As we said, the engineering drawings are ours.
Quote:
OK, the story on this is that the engine work is being done by FHI with support from Yamaha. Quite how Moto heard this as "Toyota" isn't for us to say. Perhaps they we're being liberal with the word "we" or perhaps "we" meant the project team. But for us, "we" means FHI and we are developing the engine for this car.
Isn't this in the wrong thread?

Interesting... I missed out. Thanks for fishing those out.

Your right...wrong thread. Too bad no news to post about the Impreza. They should at least have some ready for road tests soon.

The Canadian Subaru site has been slightly updated with new information regarding the 2012 Impreza:

http://www.subaru.ca/WebPage.aspx?We...ebPageID=16792

On the link, you will notice a 360 degree view of the entire car, equiped with side skirts, and the seven colors that will available during launch.

It has a good video. Looks like their Limited gets mirror winkers, unlike ours.

There is also a video on that site.

The hatch looks awesome. Mirrors still look awkward but the rest of the car is really nice looking. Can't wait to see on one the street.

I don't know there's something lacking after watching that youtube video. Its like I was expecting to get excited but wasn't.

Anyway, I'm seeing a lot of upcoming 2012 autoblog tests. Nothing mention the 2012 Impreza being tested soon though.

Like that blue color in the video, but isn't that different than the blue they had during the unveil? The one in this video looks darker, whereas the one on the unveil was a more "gray-blue". Could just be the lighting, though.

WAY better than current IMO. The current Impreza is just downright less than average.

Looks nice...much better than the current base impreza. I keep telling everyone I know to check these out when they release.

36mpg and AWD in the NW would be fantastic.

The gauges aren't white like in the april 20 release pics. That's cool.

600mi hwy per tank sounds awesome!

I strongly suspect this new Impreza will jump way up the charts against its competition, especially in Consumer Reports ratings (where the Civic just dropped to "no longer recommended" and the current not-that-great Impreza is well above it).

Canadian.

What are those controls that are located where the bluetooth controls are now? Why do they get that display up where the mpg's are and we don't? WTF!!!!!!! Even the A/C controls look nicer! No ECO guage either for the Canadians.

Never fails that SOA makes bad decisions. Canada Impreza > USA Impreza

^ yeah. but unless there are heaps of unsold cars at the dealers, they have NO incentive to match the prices down.
