Default 2006 Legacy Engine Swap

I recently got a auto 2006 Legacy i. Really clean, but has 211k miles on body. Engine is no good, but was wondering if their was any swap recommendations. Like a Legacy GT engine possibly? STI engine?

Also how hard would it be to swap in a manual transmission, from another Legacy or?

Any info or suggestions would be really apperciated. Thanks!

If you can find a Legacy GT engine and manual transmission, or one from a WRX or STI or Forrester, they will all fit. Try to get the entire wiring harness for the whole car along with the engine and transmission. You will also (more than likely) need a rear diff that matches the final drive ratio of whatever manual transmission you put in. Mechanically the swap is as simple as it can be. Electrically it can be anywhere from a step through replacement of the existing wiring harness with a different one to dozens of wire splices and plug replacements. If you could find the entire drivetrain and wiring harness out of a wrecked 2006 Legacy GT it would be as easy as it gets.

Thanks for the response! Very helpful

Im going to look for a Legacy GT engine as my main option. If I cant find one, someone I know is selling a JDM STI engine from 1996 STI 555(EJ20G). Comes with transmission, wiring, etc. However I doubt it would even be legal to swap, and all the extra work it would be.

Thanks again

I'm considering doing this to my 07 OB 2.5i 5MT. Have you found out anything else or abandoned this project?
