Chicago 2011: 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 is a 465-horsepower family sedan

2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 Click above for high-res image gallery

We're still wrapping our heads around the appearance of the new 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8, but we don't need even a second thought regarding its performance specifications. Just about anything sporting a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 putting out 465 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque will find a welcome bay in our garages, and this Charger is no exception.

Yes, the five-speed automatic is a bit of a disappointment in this day and age, but something tells us a few 12-second trips down the good ol' 1320 ought to ease that bit of pain, as would an autobahn blast at the Charger SRT8's 175 miles per hour top speed. If those tantalizing little tidbits are enough to whet your appetite for more, we highly suggest you click here to read the rest of the impressive specifications.

The Evo looks dynamic, as if it's ready to pounce. The Dodge looks like a fat pig resting on its haunches with its snout-nostrils flaring.

I think it looks like a giant, disproportionate Evo X.

I agree.

This is what I said to my wife:

"I kinda like it, even though its disgusting, i mean, i like the way the evo looks, so i like the way the SRT looks by default...but I dont like the idea of taking design queues from mitsubishi, they make TV's for christs sake"

I like it, looks aggressive. I do see some similarities to the evo the more I look but I cant see why people are hating on it. I think people here are getting to use to the bland boring design of our beloved imprezas maybe it needs a park bench sized wing on the back to get some love around here. It probably is a fat pig with a huge gas tank but its american muscle car and I would definatly take it if I could afford it.

If they would have smoothed out the sides, it wouldn't look that awful.

Maybe it's the Evo's fat American cousin?

The shape of the curvature around the grille made me think of a cross between the current Evo X and one of these:

I wonder if GM and Chrysler thinks taxpayers will save them again. They are not prepared for what's about to happen. OK the Volt but that isn't for the masses. Both have not shown anything except V8's making big hp. No diesels, small hatches that are not a penalty box etc. I guess we will see, I hope I am wrong

so many haters. i saw the car in person and thought it was way better looking than the EVO. the evo looks like any other cheap japanese import with a almost unusable trunk. the charger is also a lot roomier inside and out.

no one is saying this is a great track car - this is a family sedan with gobbs of torque and hp. dont know why everyone is judging EVERY single car with the same criteria here on nasioc.... a car doesnt have to be tiny and light with awd and 4cyl turbo to be attractive. most people on here dont even own modern muscle cars yet they hate on them for the sake of hating... but i guess the same deal on the muscle car forums hating on all these torqueless imports.

I don't see anyone commenting negatively around the cars performance or being negative because it is American. People are just voicing their opinions as to the looks of the vehicle. If it looks better in person, then that is cool, but from what I have seen in pictures, it looks way too busy and overdone in a cartoon-ish manner that justy seems childish and somewhat clueless. But then again, I think the current EVO is a good looking car. To each their own.

Mechanically, it's solid. But, I will never for the life of me understand why Dodge insists on designing its cars to be so flamboyant and garish. It's almost like it's a caracature of what a muscle car should be.

It does look like an Evo. Nothing wrong with that. Especially since it's bigger, faster and has a huge Hemi V-8. A few cheap bolt-ons and 550hp is easily had.

There are limits to only 2 liters.

Now all it needs is a supercharger to destroy some ZR-1's.
